OT: Craft Beer For Easter/Spring

PA is a state where the grocery stores have better beer than 90% of bars do. I was drinking Stone Enjoy By 4.20 and Evil Twin Yin and Yang on draft at Whole Foods Logan Square last night.

as in Ohio, these big chain stores do some much more business than the small beer shops, so the distros give all the good beers to the big stores. so as a hardcore beer drinker, you have to adapt and frequent the chains to get good beer. It sucks because you know casual beer drinkers are randomly buying really great brews and not fully appreciative to what they are getting their hands on.

A good friend of mine is a rep for a big craft distributor, and she told me the big stores squeeze the small craft stores out of product and she has to fight to get the small guys good brews.

Had some great beers this weekend. Spring House Brewing Citra Must be Destroyed IPA, Wicked Weed's Lieutenant Dank, Tired Hands WeedmanDudeGuy, Carton Unjunct, Smithwick's Blonde Brewmaster Edition, Magnify Beautiful Liquid, Captain Lawrence Seeking Alpha, Horny Goat Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, Stone Enjoy by 4/20/17, Terrapin Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA, Wild Onion Java Jack Stout and many others. Great weekend. If you're an IPA lover and you haven't tried Magnify's stuff yet go get some, they are killing it, they are located right in Fairfield.

Terrapin Hi-Five IPA is a classic IMO. Try to find Against the Grain's Citra *** Down or any of the IPAs from Half Acre in Chicago (Daisy Cutter, Double Daisy Cutter, Navaja, Vallejo).

Yeah, had it last wkend. I gave it a solid 4 on Untappd. FW kills it with their Barrel Aged Line...IPAs are good but not world class IMO though.

Firestone, Stone, and Green Flash are some of the best in the biz so can't really go wrong. I don't think they have but it's hard for me to keep track but have any of them sold to macros yet?

yeah for sure, I trade quite a bit of HH. Konkey Dong is coming in a few weeks. Hopefully on May 7th, so I'll be more than likely getting a case of that and whatever other release they do that day. HH is a bit of a pain, buy tickets, drive 2 hours on a Sunday to pick up. great share tho.

my email mike(dot)balut(at)gmail

I did a couple trades last year with some other board members, but sadly no Kane. Also looking for Grimm idk how hard that is to get.

Also keep an eye out for Founder's PC Pils as well as Doom, the 3rd beer in Founder's BA Lineup after KBS. Philly is also getting distro from Upland Brewery in Bloomington, Indiana so looking forward to trying their stuff.

Had Magnify Brewery's Beautiful Liquid this week and it was really good. Too bad it is a limited release.

Also tried Brix City Just Another Double IPA and it was pretty good too. I prefer Magnify but will also buy from Brix City to support the local breweries.

Tried Victory at Sea Coconut
The Coconut Victory at Sea I actually liked... Maybe your batch was infected or something. Now the Peppermint Victory at Sea...blech. Anyone get Lagunitas The Waldo's or the first 2017 batch of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA?

The coconut was so artificial/chemical tasting. I dumped it after a few sips.

So I had the Firestone Walker today. Aroma wise exactly like Shape of Hops to Come. Taste wise like Pliny the Elder. Fantastic

Any fans of funky saisons/sour Ales in South Jersey need to hit up the Kelly Green bottle release of Adit on Saturday in Pitman.

Had Blaecorn Unidragon from Clown Shoes, a Russian Imperial Stout, was excellent. Demented's recent release Café Negro a Black IPA is very good too.

Have you had their Exorcism by Sunset? Fantastic. I'm looking forward to checking out the Upland Brewery beers...they just launched distro in Philly. They are from Bloomington, Indiana and specialize in BA Sour Ales.

Had Founders Sumatra Mountain last night, the 2017 batch. It's good but I think will be even better aged a month or two. A Bourbon or Rum Barrel Aged Sumatra Mountain would be fantastic. Their next barrel aged beer, Doom comes on shelves in May. Wiens Brewery from LA is now in PA via Nevulius and Hydra from South Dakota is here as well.

Thinking of doing a Bourbon Barrel Aged Horizontal for the Kentucky Derby. A KBS will definitely be one of the BA Beers on that list. So will BA Ten Fidy and Hardwood Kentucky Christmas Morning.

I bought Paradise bottles. It's good.
Hardwood Kentucky Christmas Morning.
I had Hardywood Gingerbread Stout a few months ago (still have 2 bottles left) but haven't gotten my hands on Christmas Morning.

I bought Kane Morning Bell & it's easily my 2nd or 3rd favorite beer after Abraxas. I wish they had more production.

Kane A Night To End All Dawn's is quickly becoming the Moby Dick to my Captain Ahab. Just managed to get Founders Doom and Half Acre Galactic Double Daisy Cutter. Revolution also has started distro in NJ.

My local beer bar now has a Founders tap take over selection, incldg CBS, KBS and other Founders specialties. All brews are about 11-14% ABV.

Need to be prepared to take on those puppies. One or two and Done, ha! At least for this RU fan.
