Didn't read the whole thread but was reading earlier today that Copa America and the Gold Cup could merge in the future and the tournament would be held in the US every 4 years on a permanent basis. I think they like the infrastructure and stadiums here that can handle all the logistics regularly.
Would be amazing.

MLS may have a spots in the Copa libertadores. I'd rather the European Champions League however you can't doubt the Combols Ambitions for the American dollar.

I'm just a pedestrian soccer fan at best but I'd imagine that doesn't mean we'd qualify permanently even though we could be a permanent host. Right?
Well if they keep the same format with 10 Conmebol teams (South America) and 6 Concacaf (North and Central America) it would be very, very easy for the US to qualify each time.

It's just a tournament not a qualification. We don't want to dance with those chaps. FIFA wants The US mainstream and US secondary TV Market (Mexico) to have smooth sailing into the World Cup Tournament.

Oh really, I thought it was similar to the Euro Cup but for the Americas (North/Central-Gold Cup/South America-Copa America) where the countries had to qualify. Now there's talk that they might merge the two but I just assumed there was always some qualifications process like the Euro Cup.

I think it's good idea to merge the 2. Like I said I'm just a pedestrian soccer fan and I pay more attention to Euro leagues and tourneys when I do watch. I knew of the Copa Americas but never really paid attention to it even though Argentina/Brazil are there. Now that it's being played here and the US is also involved I've watched a little more of the tournament than I normally would have. I think you can get more mainstream and periphery fans like myself to pay attention. Having it in combo with the Euro Cup almost at the same time is a nice 1-2 punch also for the pedestrian fan.

Care to explain how a game on our soil has over half the crowd rooting for a foreign team from another continent?

The same reason I have have friends that root for Germany, Italy, and Portugal before the USA. Heritage, despite the fact that were born here and in most cases have no current family ties to that country.

With South American teams the vast majority of the people in the stands are 1st and 2nd generation immigrants that still have family ties and allegiances to the "Home Country":

To break it down on a granular level:
If you grew up a Yankees and Giants fan your entire life then at the age of 35 moved to Kansas City with your wife and kids , do you immediately become a Royals and Chiefs fan.

Maybe your children do because they grow up in that Culture, but it is highly unlikely that you would.

Same thing applies to Soccer National Teams.

Again you aren't getting it lol. Of course you can debate the best league, no one's denying that. Yes, yes, yes. You can debate the best league. OK? But that has nothing, zero, zilch to do with the argument. I'll try to make myself as clear as possible:

***THE BEST TEAMS FROM THE BEST LEAGUES PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TO DETERMINE THE BEST TEAM OVERALL***

Get it? If not, please read that a few times and once it really sinks in, come back to me. Like I understand you don't know much about soccer but it genuinely seems like you're trying to sound stupid by repeating the same, wrong things over and over and over again.

To add to that

The Champions League Tournament winner does not call themselves World Champions. They call themselves European Champions.

Most people to not realize that there is another tournament after the Champions Leagues which includes the winners of all of the different champions leagues.

The FIFA Club World Cup has run for the last 10 years straight. In those 10 Years. 8 tournaments have been won by the UEFA Champions League Winner and all 10 years the UEFA Team was a a finalist.

European Soccer is without a doubt the best in the world

Would love a win tonight so there isn't as much pressure in the Paraguay match on Saturday!

It helps the Costa Rica's best central defender, Kendall Watson, is out on Red Card

Not enough Americans care about soccer, except to cheer on Sally & Johnny on Saturday mornings so they can get participation trophies.

Joel Campbell and Bryan Ruiz are always a threat on the counter. I like the Brooks and Cameron pairing, but they haven't had a ton of time together.

Got to give Fabian Johnson credit, he handled Joel Campbell.

We looked sharp last night after those first few minutes. Excellent results from both matches. All we need on Saturday is a draw to advance because Costa Rica is not beating Colombia by six goals.

I'm going to Philly on Saturday. Looking at Quarter & finals tickets at Met Life. Face value is just absurdly high.

Saturday should be fun. I'm a little surprised that the 2 games in the group are not being played at the same time. If we win, Costa Rica has nothing to play for which in turn will make it unlikely that we win the group which would require a Costa Rican victory.

Taken from the article above: "Many of the people who go to [Mexico’s games in the US] do not have legal papers,” says Juan Villoro, the Mexican author of God Is Round, a book of vignettes on soccer, and one of the most respected living writers about the sport. “If the border patrol would make an inspection in these stadiums, they would find many illegal Mexicans there. But these so-called aliens risk this situation because they want to be in Mexico. At that very moment, the stadium is a part of Mexico. It’s really moving to see those people evoking so many emotions and trying to be part of this little Mexico for 90 minutes. This is extraordinary.”

Been saying this since the first and only U.S. game vs Mexico I went to in San Diego. If our government was serious about collecting illegal aliens, INS should be all over those stadiums.

You're out of your mind! The only fan base that can rival us here in the United States is Mexico... I've been to many United States vs Brazil games and not once did they ever remember us.
How many seats are left? Gotta figure Brazillians bought tickets before the Cup even started. Our fans are still In wait and see mode.

There will be 2 teams playing on Sunday at Metlife Stadium. Does anyone know where these 2 teams will be practicing?
Just curious. Thanks!

Usually one is at Giants facility right next to stadium and then the other is probably at Jets.

Not necessarily. I forget when, but there was a large international club tourney that had a game in the Meadowlands, and I believe the Man United players were based in East Brunswick & I think they practiced in Rutgers. Are the Giants/Jets facilities grass? If not, then they'll be practicing somewhere else, as Metlife will have a temporary grass field for the tourney.

Wow, Venezuela just had would could be the goal of the tournamentto this point! Long shot from the right near midfield with the goalie far off the line. Goalie made a good recovery to get a hand on the shot and deflect it off the crossbar but another attacker cleaned it up and bounced it over the diving goalie.
