Ok, fellas. I’m headed back to New Orleans this weekend for about four days on business. I’ve got a list of food places already lined up, and I know we post on this regularly throughout the year. I really just have one question I’d like input on from anyone who’s been there.

Is Commander’s Palace worth it? It is constantly at the top of every list, and I’d like to try it, if so.

Can’t help you with there, but Houston’s is the best place in NO for me.

Commanders Palace is good. for similar menu and price you can go to Bon Ton Cafe. It’s better overall and Turtle soup is much better.

If you've never been then go for it. The is very good and the experience is worth at least one trip.
Crab beignets at La Petite Grocery are unbelievable.
Brigsten's is the REAL place.

I always plan on going to new places. I always end up at the gumbo shop because it’s right there.

Later after a lot of draft beer I end up at willies chicken shack then on for pizza at the pizza daquari bar.

I genuinely appreciate the info. Think I'm going to do it, and may replace a couple of my others with y'all's suggestions.

Yes. It's worth it. For a fine dinning restaurant, the level of service, coupled with the portions, it is a staple NOLA place to visit.

Btw, if you go for lunch during the week, you can partake in the .25cent martini specials.

Save the $ and pretension and just go to Port of Call.

There is nothing pretentious about CP, especially for a classic NOLA fine dinning joint.

That being said, Port of Call is one of my favs. Great burger cooked to temp, and their house drinks are a thing to behold.

So many good ones. Never been to CP, but obviously you can’t go wrong if you want to go fancy and dress up.

id also recommend Clancy’s..even further uptown.not sure if that had been recommended before. Very local feel but not a dive at all. Feels like a “don” Corleone or otherwise is dining somewhere in the place. https://www.clancysneworleans.com/

but yeah, I’d like to do CP, so if you’re prepared I’d do it.

It’s a great experience but there are better places imo. If you’ve never been I’d definitely recommend. So many great Chefs have worked there at some time. These are some others too:

August
GW Fins
Peche’
Doris Metropolitan
Upperline
Clancy’s

I second Upperline. We enjoyed it better than Commanders.

Hot Tin. Good drinks, but I find it can get a bit crowded.

Lived in Uptown Nola for 8 years. You cannot go wrong with:
Atchafalaya
Upperline
Patois
Clancy’s
Geautreaux’s
High Hat on Freret for brunch
St. James Cheese Co
Katie’s
Columns for drinks (afternoon or night)

PoC has the best burger in the Southeast. It's worth getting there before they open and waiting in line.

Tell me about the pizza and daq bar

Not sure if serious but I’ll tell anyway. Can’t speak for the daiquiris but after a few hours of drinking mixed drinks and draft beer that pizza is some of the best I’ve ever had. Corner of St Louis and Bourbon.

This is great advice. Go to CP for the experience if you've never been. It's definitely worth it. But yes, August and Doris Metro are both excellent. I'd go to CP for sure and add any one of the other excellent places that blackjack listed. I had an upscale experience at August a few years ago and I though the Roosevelt Bar was pretty cool as well
