We're back, Italians!
Happy Columbus Day to all Italian Americans

Italians have contributed a lot to America, with bridges, cities, etc. named after us
Great food, terrific fashion, beautiful people

Shame the parades were cancelled today as I planned on going to the one in Long Branch
Regardless, today is a day of celebration - so tip your glasses and Cento Anni !!

Dumb question - I agree that there are so many great Italian Americans- but why isn't the Holiday for one of them that ever stepped foot in our country?

Not dumb at all - I think it's a historical thing where they honored CC back in the day and have kept it going
Personally, I'd be in favor of renaming it Italian American day and honoring all of the people from the Old Country that made a difference if that's what they decided to ultimately do

Honestly, I would be happy to just celebrate the food - Italian-American Feast Day.

🤣🤣🤣 I’m a first generation Italian-American. The majority of Italians in Italy don’t give a **** about Columbus. He “discovered” the Caribbean island he landed on and had Spanish ships and Spanish crews.
The majority of Italians I know do care and are proud today
Guess it depends who you know or where you're from

FDR created this holiday for political purposes to appease Italian-Americans following violence against its community in New Orleans, wherein a mob powered by the Klan lynched eleven IA immigrants, wrongfully accused of a role in the murder of a police chief. Outrage over the lynching spread across communities around the nation, as well as from the nation of Italy. And so we get a national holiday. History ain’t pretty.

Ehhh.. we'll claim him anyway
St. Patrick was Italian, but the Irish have him on lock
That settle it
No need to Chris anymore and have people fight over what he did or accomplished.
Italian Americans have a new hero :Maewyn Succat and every year on ( pick a date) to have Maewyn Succat Day parade.
Have all who celebrate it eat Spaghetti and meatballs ,drink red wine and have the Raritan River dyed red like Chicago dyes the Chicago river green on St Patrick's Day

Can we start a Schiano Day thing ? What would it commemorate ? Too many glorious highlights to choose from.
