How about Chambers at PSU?

Wasn't Penn State in the tournament with him? Also they have a very strong 2015 class and a Top 60 pledge in 2016.

Addition: Texas coach Rick Barnes.

Rick Barnes' name seems to come up there every so often despite how many NCAA tourneys he makes. I'm sure they'd like deeper runs but for a heavy football school like Texas I think he's done a good job. Yea they have a ton of resources but there's a point of diminishing returns with that and how do other southern football schools like LSU/Alabama/Auburn etc.. do in basketball. Florida is probably the only one I can think of and they have a really great coach. Maybe Tenn under Pearl

Chambers is a good example. Taken him 4 years to get where they are. Rutgers fans would have wanted him fired already. They have increased their win total every year.

I don't think Altman or Romar on in any danger and don't think Gregory at GTech needs to worry unless Tech believes they are going to convince Craig Neal to leave New Mexico and come back to his alma mater at GTech.....Gottfried is safe at NCState, they are committed to trying to stay relevant vs Duke and UNC.

Willard and Lavin makes sense on paper.....but don't think either program is prepared to cut bait financially this year, next year is a potentially different story. Both have unusual circumstances that really make it impossible to get a good coach to follow up after a season like this year.

My names would be Crean at Indiana (if they fade down stretch and the Celtics Brad Stevens comes to his senses and leaves the NBA) and McCaffery at Iowa......both coaches are very talented, but neither has solved the midwestern mindset that both need to not just recruit....you need to be politically connect with your students and fan base and be correct on and off the court and McCaffery in particular is just not cut out for Iowa City.

Crean belongs in a Eastern Time zone where his fast talking ways and salesmanship would go over well.....Indiana is really more about alumni and fan base image and Crean really has never solved that mantra.

There is a third "darkhorse" school that may make a move sooner than anyone thinks, but will wait a week to see how things develop in their next 2 to 3 games...this one may surprise people because the program has been doing well and coach doesn't appear to be in trouble, but just may not realize that unrealistic alumni and fans drive the bus. If this coach hits the market, there would be a host of suitors for him, but similar to Crean and McCaffery, the right fit is what makes sense more than results.

We just want progress. The problem is we lose our leading scorers and we haven't seen anyone capable of stepping in to replace them.

But that's a different topic.

Crean makes $3.16M at Indiana.

He'll do TV before taking the Rutgers job.

He's coached at Marquette and Indiana. He's from Michigan, attended Central Michigan and his entire career has been in the Midwest except one season as a Pitt assistant.

I know at Indiana he hired the Team Takeover guy but I'm not completely sold on him being better off on the east coast. He does have the type of personality.

Hawk - great analysis...agree with you on all your points especially with Brad Stevens.....Stevens seems to be tracking like Rick Pitino realizing there's a big difference between the NBA and College.

Is your 3rd "darkhorse" candidate from the Big 10? If so, would have to think Turgeon or Painter - though my guess is you're referring to the latter - who has done a terrific job with an average squad at best - however Purdue faithful may require NCAA's...For Turgeon, he was clearly on hot seat coming into season but as Maryland is a shoo-in for the Dance - I would have to think he's safe.....

Another guy is Tennesse's Donnie Tyndall because of the controversy at Southern Mississippi. S##t might hit the fan. I think Chris Mack and Louisiana Tech's Michael White turned them down last year.

Memphis recently signed him to a long-term contract (worth approx $10 Million, as Pastner makes $2.65 Million per year at Memphis) and while some Tiger fans are upset with their play this year, don't think Memphis would pay him to go away...and then have to pay a giant chunk of $$$ to a new incoming coach

How is Ford on the hot seat...Okie State is 22 and Painter can't be on the hot seat. They were 5-13 in the Big 10 last year and are now 10-4

I think its reasonable to expect a little more progress than that. Perhaps his recruiting commitments save him but thus far not much in the way of results. PSU has much better facilities than we do but have not come close to fully utilizing. Both Hockey and Wrestling seem more popular in the winter.

Can't see Gottfried , Ray , McCaffrey , Altman in any trouble---------ditto Chambers.

Williard and Lavin are safe for this year IMO especially in view of the fact that St Johns is a NCAA tournament candidate at this point.

Bruce Weber , Anthony Grant and Rick Barnes IMO are the most prominent candidates to get axed at this point.

Have never been there in person but the facilities argument seems to fall flat here. PSU arena appears, at least on TV, to have all the charm of a strip mall. My worst Knightmare for a new RAC.

Since the year 2000, Weber team have won less than 20 games 3 times. Other schools are much tougher graders.

It doesn't help that they don't draw well. They had more of home court advantage in Rec Hall but they were also a more competitive team. Bryce Jordan is very impressive from the outside and may have fans a little further away because it also is a nice hockey arena. We could do a lot worse.

ZZZZZZ. Generic multi-purpose arenas do nothing for me. Watching Nebraska and fans behind basket seem like miles away. Kinda sad.

While the. RAC has issues, replacing it is not a priority. Upgrades would be nice. Lack of a practice facility is the killer
