Both of these things are true. Rutgers fans have short arms compared to other big time schools and Cliff is overpaid. The reason he is at Alabama is because no one else would pay him that.
Richie has stated that Cliff had even better offers but he wanted to go for a championship, so he got both.

Neither team mentioned in this thread would be in the tournament if they were in the B1G with their current rosters. Big (no pun intended) difference when you're playing in the Missouri Valley and Southland conferences, respectively.
I think people know this but you and others are dismissing that there are different kind of players out there that can succeed

vs. Robert Morris so far - 7/7 and 15 points total. Announcers have mentioned his transfer from Rutgers about 10 times already.

What could have been
Personally I'm rooting for Cliff to win it all.

He’d have been worth it to Rutgers. We would’ve been in the tournament.
Highly doubt it. I’m a Cliff fan. Good kid. But the reason he didn’t play last 10 min is…. He’s kind of a defensive / rebounding liability….. and this was against robert morris.
And if he was as good as all you guys say he was defensively he wouldn’t be sitting in crunch time.

This website

Has him 3.31 wins above replacement. Rutgers with Cliff becomes 18-14! Maybe 19-13.

Yes that’s 40 games. Thats why I said maybe 19-13… and that’s not 40 games that’s only 32.
19-13 probably doesn’t get you to the tournament.
I know you guys love Cliff because he had cool blocks.

Also he prob takes lathan minutes who himself has a 1. So if Lathan gets 1 win over replacement and gets replaced by someone with 4…. Net in the end is 3.

I think your wrong. I know it seems like I’m ragging on Lathan but there are just so many easy baskets that don’t happen with Cliff in there instead. Nobody is perfect. Cliff isn’t going to make every play either but we literally could stop nobody ever. It’s not even so much the defense but the addition opportunities Dylan and Ace would’ve had for run outs if we got the ball in ways that weren’t side outs.

There’s a lot of things we typically do on defense that we couldn’t due to the lack of rim protection. Cliff allowed us to play aggressive on the perimeter and put pressure on the ball because we had him there if guys got beat on the perimeter.

We also had a whole lot of trouble handling ball screens this year. Cliff was really good at hedging and recovering because of his elite athleticism.

I think Lathan would have been a nice change of pace big who provided some scoring when Cliff was on the bench, but the biggest reason our defense fell off of a cliff this year was not having an elite rim protector like we did the last 5 years with Cliff and Myles.

100% this. Cliff, like Paul, did have a tendency to get frustrated and could lose focus for a few possessions on D but even at his worst, he was a big upgrade on post D which was basically nonexistent this year. I truly believe we would’ve won 5+ more games with him. It would make that big of a difference.

Cliff also could set a pick properly unlike most of our roster this year.

That too. In my opinion, the biggest dfference though would’ve been the increase in possessions that didn’t come from side outs after made baskets or FTs. To really take advantage of having talents like Ace and Dylan we simply needed them to have more opportunities to use their skills to dominate. Even NBA bound talents can’t do that consistently in halfcourt iso play because teams adjust and focus on them.

What's your point

A team won 30 games and lost 3 and 4-5 players didn't miss a beat moving up one whole division
Beat Vandy and Missouri
Let's see your comments if and when they get blown out. You can't believe If they played in the BIg they would have had anywhere near that record or even got into the tournament. One hit wonders seem to impress shallow folks. Give them credit but don't anoint them kings .

NIL should go to football at this point.
NIL donors can choose which program they contribute to

in terms of the $20.5M available from revenue sharing, it should be $15M to football and $5M to men’s basketball imo. the last $500k can go to wrestling and/or women’s basketball.

If a school directly spends $10 million, mostly on their starting five players, the head coach should get a modest base salary and incentives for each milestone reached.

Fully guaranteed money for a coach should be taken off the table when the school commits to spending that much for his players.
you guys just need to wrap your head around the fact that this is what its going to take for the next few years to be competitive

it may not last forever... but for AT LEAST the next 3-5 years if you dont have $$$ youre fighting with a plastic knife

anybody notice this year had the FEWEST close calls let alone true upsets in the first round... literally 2 real dogs won and you could argue Drake was under seeded so youre left with McNeese

the best players at that level are not staying at those schools and march madness will suffer as a result

To Rutgers, yes 100%. Not to an Alabama team that doesn’t have unlimited funds. But they did - so it doesn’t matter.

Yes to Alabama too. A distinction without a difference.

No - Alabama didn’t need him to be a clear tournament team. They are top 6 seed with or without him. I guess we’ll see how far they go and the role he plays in it over the next few games but my guess is that if money was a major factor the marginal difference in how good their team is with him wouldn’t be worth $1.2M.

Having him would’ve changed they entire dynamics of RU team. He would’ve filled a massive hole. Different situation.

I am sure I am missing a few more but yes a retention program problem
At the very least Jalen Miller and Gavin and Wolf and Derek and Tez were addition by subtraction. None went on to do anything.

Waiting for the post game recap by Bac . McNesse ,as I said , would not be the 30-3 team Bac touts. No where near. And Wade's team gets a ton of T's.

mcneese just matched our best seasons’ results outside of ‘76
So what! Why is Ru in your statement?? You need to attack RU?? The infatuation with one hit wonders is what's my point. But as usual disparagement of RU has to be made. You must love Bac' s routine.

just felt like you were minimizing how well mcneese and wade did this year and how good a team it was. he has gotten them to the tourney in back to back years and just got them as far as we’ve been in recent memory.
