There’s a “nationality” of people that are mainly from central Louisiana( around Marksville)that it refers to. It isn’t derogatory to them. They are a French, Indian, Cajun, combo. They have their own dialect and they shorten a lot of words and combine English, French, and their ancestral Indian languages. It is very difficult to understand and it doesn’t help that most of them mumble it and talk very fast. Think of the guy in the movie Waterboy that nobody can understand. I never did figure out most of what they ever said.

Nope, I had 3 of them working for me and we discussed it quite a bit. Also went to some shows at the casinos they had by Marksville. Me communicating with them was the same as me piloting the space shuttle. Not successful.

A side note about the Marksville area. If you weren’t a local or with a local you didn’t dare go anywhere alone. It was a very crime stricken area. It was the first school I ever saw with armed guards for the teachers and they escorted them everywhere around school and some they followed home at night. I had a guy working for me that was a history teacher there and he got tired of being scared all the time so he quit in the middle of the year and worked for me till got another teaching job the next fall.

Coach O is from south of New Orleans, Larose in Lafourche Parish. Southwest of Lake Salvador. Pretty far in the south of the state.
