Heading up this weekend (Kids Free) to raft the Ocoee. Needing help with recs on restaurants and bars...I've done some research but won't to hear from some of y'all that know the area. Talking breakfast, lunch, dinner ($ to $$$) and dive bars to nicer bar/grill places. Anything cool we should do/see that's not mainstream attraction/activity? Already done the Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, Aquarium type attractions.....looking for something different. Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give.

You will have fun. Great city. We were there for our anniversary a few weeks ago. Easy Bistro is excellent for dinner. Hennen’s and Public House are both good dinner spots as well. Blue Plate and Big River Grille are kinda meh....would avoid those. Maple Street Biscuit Company is also outstanding for breakfast or lunch.

Also if you don’t already have accommodations, I’d look into Bode Chattanooga. It’s basically an apartment-style hotel right downtown with full kitchen and living area, and very reasonable prices. They have ping pong tables and a cocktail bar downstairs, and a gathering area where they show old movies on a projector. Its a pretty cool spot, and awesome if you are traveling with a group of more than one couple.

Whenever we go to Chattanooga, we always go to Public House. It's our favorite place to eat there.

And if you're into old video games, The Coin-Op Arcade is pretty fun.

The north side of the river is pretty hip these days.

Chattanooga has a lot of cool bars and restaurants, but honestly they’re always pretty dead. Maybe the crowd goes out later.

A nice sit-down dinner recommendation is Alleia. Trendy setting with great food and service.

They'll recommend the wood-fired pork shoulder...and it was very good.

Enjoy your trip!

My business takes me to Chattanooga 6-8 times a month. NorthShore is still a trendy part of town but Southside has some newer cool spots as well.

Mike's Hole in the Wall - Cool "going out" bar, NorthShore area
OPA - Very good greek menu, excellent food, NorthShore
Flying Squirrel - Trendy cocktail bar on the Southside
State of Confusion - Large, casual, outdoor patio bar/restaurant, Southside

I've been to Flying Squirrel-- had some beers after a Sturgill Simpson show there. Nice selection of local brews.

Niedlov's is a bakery and cafe about a block or so south of it. I've gotten a good breakfast there.

I went to Alleia during midweek two weeks ago. I called and they were full until 9:00 but suggested I come anyway and sit at the bar. I had the home made Penne Pasta Bolognese and a glass of Italian red wine. Great dinner in a very nice atmosphere. It’s an Italian restaurant and they did not suggest the wood-fired pork shoulder. I did not see that on the menu, but I was focusing on the Italian food.

For breakfast, if you like biscuits, mosey on to Milk And Honey on the Northshore or Maple Street in downtown. The Boathouse is great for lunch or casual dinner. Hennen’s for a little nicer dinner. The Yellow Deli around UTC is a great casual lunch also (but be aware it’s run by cultish hippie people and is thus out of the norm). But I’m just an old pig farmer so take it for what it’s worth.

There are some good recommendations in this thread. Here is what I would do:

Spend a lot of time in southside, lives there for two years and I miss it everyday.

Southside
For breakfast I would go to STIR. Southern style fare. Awesome bourbon collection and great breakfast/brunch items. You also get a small buffet included if you purchase an entree. $2 mimosas. The next day I would go to State Of Confusion. Way better brunch buffet, boozy, great food, the whole nine. I would also recommend Bluegrass Grill if you just wanted an absolutely perfect breakfast and didn’t want to booze it up. I’ve never seen it when there isn’t a line. I’ve been there many times waiting in line before the sun is up waiting on the staff to open it up...

For lunch, I would go to Main Street Meats and order the burger. It’s the best one I’ve ever had. (Tremont Tavern in Northshore is in my top 5 too). If you like divey type places, The Pickle Barrel is my favorite bar in Chattanooga. They smoke in there but you can sit up on the roof/patio to avoid that. They have a great cheap menu and in an awesome space. Pepper jammer burger is my go-to. The Terminal (right beside Stir) would be a good option too for lunch as would. FEED would also be a good lunch option.

For supper, I would have to recommend Alleia. The best bolognese I’ve ever had. Can be a pricey place, but when me and ole gal go we can get two orders of bolognese and a bottle of wine and I’m out the door for $70 including the tip. I would also go over the Flying Squirrel for drinks/cocktails before you go out to eat supper or afterwards for a night cap:

Northshore:
For breakfast, go to FOODWORKS. Dollar mimosas and very well done food. High quality stuff and not terribly expensive.
For lunch, River Street Deli. Order whatever the special is. Or go to Tremont for a very solid burger and a beer.
For supper, there are some good options depending on what you’re in the mood for. Brewhaus is good if you’re into that type of thing. German style food and good beer. Foodworks does a very solid supper too if you didn’t do breakfast there and want to try it out. Beast + Barrel is solid. Alimentari and IL Primo are two very highly rated pasta shops over there. I’ve never been because if I’m eating pasta it would take a freight train to pull me out of Alleia.

Let me know if you have any other questions or anything else I could help with. Sent from my phone so I apologize for any misspellings and formatting.

Thanks
