Shame for the mid major champs that don’t win their conference tourney.
Alternatively what could have been done is having all regular season champs qualify that don’t win their post season tourney and then select the balance to be all power 6 schools etc.

I know people here love because of the time we lost in the NIT to Michigan .
But no one cares about that tournament , even some rutgers teams that lost to yale and Hofstra

I missed one Rutgers basketball game last year and it was the NIT game. It’s an interesting tournament when your program is on the way up, but a post season scrimmage once you’re established.

i would be surprised if steve pikiell didnt call the NIT and demand this change or threaen to never play again. Why would any power 5 program want to play a good mid major in a game that does not matter. it is all risk no reward for a power 5 program.

Now you know why unc refused to play last year. Imagine they lose to youngstown state or eastern michigan.

I don't see it that way. I think Pike likes the idea of the season continuing if they don't make the big dance. But while this enhances RU's chances of getting into the NIT, I liked the idea of rewarding the mid-major regular season champs. I guess they figured this model is more lucrative.
