Alright geniuses. Getting a surprise windfall of about $2k in the form of tax return I was expecting to owe a little on. Was going to wait until next year, but now we are going to jump on it.
We are spending a lot of time kayaking, hiking, fishing, etc. The cell phone just isn't cutting the mustard. Rolled up on a bald eagle in the kayak the other day and really wished I had a good camera. I used to be fairly into photography 20 years ago, even took Leslie's class at State. But this we pre digital days, so I had a 35mm SLR and we scanned our negatives to get them into photoshop.
Anywho, I know most cameras are going mirrorless for a variety of reasons, a lot to do with video. But instead of eating up my entire budget with a camera, I am now leaning to going with a Nikon 5600 DSLR and with the stock lens and adding a 75-300mm Nikkor VR. I can get this under $1k and with the leftover budget I can get not only a good tripod, but a waterproof case, some filters, and a drone.
For the drone, I think I am in on the DJI Mavic Air 2.
Its going to be mostly landscapes and critters with the camera and some video possibly. But the drone will be the primary video recording device and maybe a Go Pro down the road.
Is there another low cost DSLR or drone I should be considering? Or should I just go all in on a better mirrorless camera for some reason and skip the drone?
ETA. Here's the photo that pushed me over the edge. Could have been amazing if I had a real camera.
