OT: Cal Ramsey dead

[Tango Two]

Cal Ramsey, who starred at NYU in the 1950s and went on to play and broadcast for the New York Knicks, died Monday. He was 81.

While in high school, I met Ramsey at a hoops clinic which was also attended by Bernard King, Louie Nelson and Terry Furlow. He was a kind gentleman who had a seemingly endless knowledge of basketball.

I echo your thoughts. Sorry to hear about Cal. Didnt realize he went to NYU. Louie Nelson / Terry Furlow - great names from the past. Didn;t Nelson play for the Nets? Also didn;t Terry Furlow tragically pass away in a car accident while active as a player?

This. I grew up in city, and as a little kid went to games at MSG with my dad who was a sometimes photographer(mostly for boxing). When you heard him do games he was such a great listen. RIP.

Thanks. I could not remember the other guy’s name. As a kid, I would love it when the Knicks played on the west coast on Friday nights so I could stay up late and watch.

We were not allowed to watch TV in our house on Good Friday and I remember lying in bed with the transistor radio under my pillow in the early-mid 70s so I could listen to the Knicks-Bullets playoff game. Great memories.

Nelson was a Net for a handful of games in 1978 when they played at the RAC... Also, I forgot to mention Joe Bryant (Kobe's dad) was at the clinic... Indeed, Furlow died in a car accident in 1980. Following are a good recent story (10/18/18) as well as a photo of him from 2/14/80 at the RAC. Three months later he was gone.

- Fritz (trainer)...can't remember his name..Massimino or something like that?
- Dave Wohl....or if not because guy looks taller - Rich Kelley?
- Other dude looks real familiar.......can't remember name....I'll laugh when you tell me...lol

You got Fritz right... long-time Nets trainer Fritz Massmann.

The other two are Cliff Robinson (USC) and the University of Arizona's all-time leading scorer, Bob Elliott.

Me too. That's how I became a Bullets fan while my Mom has always been a big Knicks fan. Listening to the Knicks-Bullets games with Frazier, Bradley, Debuscherre, Reed etc vs the Bullets of Unseld, Johnson, Marin and so on. Still a long-suffering Bullets/Wizards fan to this day. But I'll always have 1978.
