Not a human this time, but another harness racing track.
The wake will be held tonight at the Sacramento facility.
This will be the 4th track to shut its doors in the past 3 years, including the granddaddy of them all at Freehold this past December.
There are rumors that more track closings are to come, particularly the one in Chicago.
Almost all of the remaining tracks have an attached casino partner to stay solvent with the casinos supplementing purses in a shotgun wedding setup.
The Meadowlands does not have one-and is not allowed to have one- but its purses have still been able to remain competitive due to the generosity of the taxpayers as the State Legislature keeps the juggling act going to keep Atlantic City's monopoly on casinos.
How long can that continue?
At Sacramento tonight, those in attendance should treat the event just as did the customers of Tubby's Drive-In in Hollywood Knights.
Where have you gone,Newbomb Turk?
