There is already an alternate group. Trail Life USA was started a few years ago when BSA started allowing homosexual scouts. There is an alternate to Girl Scouts as well, American Heritage Girls.

I've never been involved in scouts at all, so my only opinion on the whole deal is they better not 17 up my girl scout cookies.

It's idiotic to claim that Boy Scouts were or even are "progressive". To the extent they are moving left, it is a reactionary move, not a progressive move.

For your examples, environmental protection is not progressive. Eschewing a cost benefit analysis that puts impacts to human at the forefront of the analysis is arguably progressive, but environmental protection and conservation is a pretty neutral value politically.

Citizenship of the world references international law, so arguably that's progressive, but most of it's pretty anodyne, politically neutral stuff.

On the flip side, there is the Scout's Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

From the Scout's Law: OBEDIENT. Follow the rules of your family, school, and pack. Obey the laws of your community and country.
REVERENT. Be reverent toward God. Be faithful in your religious duties. Respect the beliefs of others

They have a family life merit badge: "The family is the basic unit of society and is important to both individuals and communities. The world is rapidly changing, making today's society much more complex than ever before. As Scouts earn this merit badge, they will realize why it is important to know more about family life and how to strengthen their families."
They have merit badges related to rifle and shotgun shooting.

They have a Citizenship in the community merit badge: "A nation is a patchwork of communities that differ from each other and may be governed differently. But regardless of how local communities differ, they all have one point in common: In the United States, local government means self-government. Good citizens help to make decisions about their community through their elected local officials."

Not exactly reflective of current progressive ideology. At least overtly, most of it is relatively apolitical although there is an obvious small "c" conservative, not necessarily political bent to their idea of responsibilities as a citizen and the importance of family and community. But basically nothing closely tied to progressives from the last few decades.

Not sure why you specifically mentioned me in your post. I get that i am viewed as the token lib cucktard, but i really am not some leftist...it just appeares that way because i am not constantly against change in society unlike so many here who are.

I couldnt care if girls are in the boyscouts. Cice versa for girls scouts, though it appears the girl scouts care a lot to keep its gender specific.

The YMCA allows women.
The W has male students.
The boy scouts have girls.

Cant say i give a **** about any of those groups opening their doors to the other gender.



ETA- i was a weeblow(sp?) and a cub scout for a few years. At 10 i learned to make corn cob pipes and easily realized my troop sucked. Perhaps if i were an eagle scout i would have stronger opinions.

I'm an Eagle Scout. I'm happy with this. I believe in the values and skills I learned through the BSA. I see absolutely no reason they shouldn't be available to as many people as possible.

FWIW - I'm a republican and not a progressive. I do not think this is political in any way.

They are sellouts because for decades they had a consistent viewpoint that homosexuals should not be allowed. As a private organization, multiple litigations upheld that standard only to concede the ground they gained largely because of political pressure and "softening" viewpoints circa 2014. I for one see it as a blatant violation of the oath all scouts take which is what they argued in court and an opinion the courts have upheld.

I don't hate gays, I hate changing ones core beliefs due to political pressure. I hate that more than I liked being a scout. Actually,being a scout kinda sucked. It was a lot of work to become an Eagle Scout.

Why shouldn't he have the freedom to not associate with ANYONE that he doesn't want to be around personally or have his family exposed to without being accused of "hating" them ?

i didnt quit the organization. it doesnt really work that way...and as i stated, i dont love it...hell, i barely tolerated it even with the gays out. i just dont support the organization form a mission standpoint any longer. its not like i was an active, supporting member before and now they will collapse because im not a part of it, but any question about future support (children joining) is out the door unless they can cover it by their own means. the organization formerly known as the BSA was doing its own thing without my active support before these decisions, but its clear their "inclucivity" will come at a cost.

i am a Christian, not a Jew. Jesus Christ died for our sins so that LEGALISM of the Old Testament was no longer applicable for salvation. The standards in the Old Testament were impossible to uphold, thus the necessity of a savior.

who am i discriminating against? my opinion is not hurting anyone. based on how you chose to juxtapose those things, it is impossible to be both tolerant and a Christian, therefore, i choose to be a Christian. I hate sin, gay sin, my sin, all sin, i dont hate people. if that makes me a bigot, so be it. again, who am i discriminating against in this scenario. not a single person is harmed by my opinion.

i believe that a divorced person should not be allowed to hold a position as an elder or deacon. my current church believes in a different interpretation in that the Bible is speaking in terms of polygamy. I dont agree at face value necessarily, but i defer to the judgment of our church leaders.
