Real men stand up.

Cowards bend the knee.

But seriously, Kaepernick is nobody's definition of a "hero". At least, nobody with half a brain.

The fact is NFL players are encouraged to use their fame and free time in the pursuit of good deeds. Charitable work is part of what the NFL has always stood for as an organization, as is "doing the right thing by your fellow man". If Colin Kaepernick wanted to raise awareness of racial inequality he's more than welcome - in fact, he's encouraged - to do that.

But... This whole thing never started out as an honest effort on his part to shine a harsh light on racism. It was a stunt. He was on the verge of getting tossed from the 49ers roster and he decided to make a play.

Unfortunately for the NFL and the rest of society, it's turned into a **** show. For that, I blame Roger Goodell.

Full disclosure, in recognition of the fact that most folks don't actually know Roger and no one else here has ever worked with him, Roger is a total dickhead, so he's a pretty easy target.

But it's a shame how the game and the fans have suffered through this whole kneeling nonsense. It could have been handled MUCH better. It was not.

Why does she care if GQ picked Kapernik as the Man of the Year?
Protesting is how we make progress. If MLK had listened to her ilk, we would still be second class citizens.
He has courage and has paid a price for that.
I hope he is also Time magazine's Man of the Year.

He has courage and has paid the price for walking away from a $ 10M contract option from an NFL team when his current skills didn’t justify that annual income. Kap should be angry at himself for making that decision IMO.

Some people admire that type of crash and burn foolishness. Others call it for what it is.

Most Americans will not shed tears for an elite athlete who overplays his salary hand and ends up with less in the free market based on his diminished skill set. Race has little to nothing to do with this.
