For me it is Buffalo Trace for Bourbon. Just a good reasonably priced brand.

I prefer scotch though. My favorite is Highland Park 18.

I can drink Islay but prefer highland myself.

Just tried a 12 Year Old Black Saddle. Quite smooth. Highly recommend it.

Which part?

The part that calls it "whiskey".

TTB regulations state that "whisky", in general (notwithstanding specific types such as bourbon, rye, single malt, etc.) is a spirit distilled from a mash of grain.

If the mash bill contains anything other than grain (in this case, "cane sugar") then it is not, legally, whisky.

I'm willing to bet there's no COLA for this label.

Make sense thanks. Thought it was whiskey part but couldn't think of why.

KENTUCKY Mash - Henry McKenna - haven't seen it too much in NJ. Also Basil Hayden and 4 Roses.

SCOTLAND - Glenlivet 12 and JW Black

IRELAND - Not distinctive about my Irish Whiskey.....a Jameson guy.

Really depends on who is paying. I never buy anything over or under 12. I do have a flight of Macallans (30, 25, 21, and 18). Got them all as gifts.

McKenna single barrel (green label) is widely available in NJ, i always keep a bottle in stock.

First it was the beer snobs. Now it's the "bourbon" snobs. When do the wine snobs chime in?

How about reverse snobbery? In the bourbon world, there is just as much of that (I'm guilty here)

Great range. If you get an opportunity to do so add a Macallans 17. Very smooth and may be a better value than the 18 and 25 ( both of which are great too).

I've come to grips with non-producer distillers. Whiskey like Orphan Barrel, who think the public is dumb enough to believe they just stumbled upon unused barrels of whiskey, used to annoy me but if it's good it's good.

Speaking of, I really like the Barrell Whiskey series. They make a line of barrel strength whiskies sourced from different distilleries and blend them. I have the 002 and 004 and they are some of my favorites that I have. They are coming in hot around 120 proof but are very drinkable.

I also just picked up my first ever Weller Antique 107, which is a wheated bourbon. Can't wait to try it.

Sourcing & blending has become simply part of the business plan. If you dedicate yourself 100% to selling whiskey that you produce in-house, then you have two choices - you either try and capture some market share with "baby bourbon", aged less than two years, or you resign yourself to the fact that you'll have zero cash flow for at least that long.

St. Augustine Distillery is a great story - they bought an old Florida Power & Light generating station and ice plant and completely rebuilt it.

They're also one of a growing number of distillers that are moving away from rye as part of their mash bill, opting for wheat as a tertiary grain, instead. It makes a smoother spirit that presents especially well when it's finished on wine oak.
Just set up a tasting at St. Augustine Distillary. Getting private label bottles as a member guest gift.

The Ardbeg is a limited release Twenty Something 23 year old. This follows 2016 release of the 21 year old. I still have not tasted this one yet. Not sure if Ill be opening it any time soon either.

Anyone having any tonight after another brutal loss? Been having a lot of Jersey beer lately but tonight am having some Macallan Classic Cut. It was a 2017 limited release.

Henry McKenna Single Barrel. 10 year BiB single barrel from Heaven Hill under $30. One of the best values in bourbon, and I love the flavor profile of the standard HH offerings as well.

I picked up these recently. Only one I opened is the GOT Lagavulin so far. Having it right now. It tastes similar to the 8yo. If you like Islay stuff you should like it. The Glenmorangie and Craigellachie I picked up duty free and the Suntory a buddy got in Japan for me.

What's your favorite whiskey and what liquor store has the best selection?

As of this writing my favorite is High West's Campire found at Stew Leonard's (although it is not uncommon). One of the clerks said they had been allocated three bottle of Elmer T Lee and ran out the first day.
Had an opportunity to tour the Buffalo Trace Distillery a couple of years ago. Of course I spent a lot of time in the tasting room. Always been partial to them ever since.

When is Old Spye going to be available?

Reassessing the business model. Unfortunately, the early market entrants are starting to fail at a substantial rate. Fortunately, the "why" is well-defined. If you're really interested in the details, we can take the conversation offline.

Thanks. I hope it works out. After looking at the logo on your posts for several years, I've been looking forward to tasting the product.

Well, if you get some used dish water and gargle it for a bit.....
