Please share any good recommendations for outdoor fun.

We went to the zip-line place in Winona today. Had good time with my 10 year old. Old Mountain Outdoor Adventures. It was definitely something fun to do outdoors.

The correct answer is disc golf. You can get a starter set at any sporting goods store for $20. Mississippi state has won multiple national championships in disc golf. Social distancing is easily attained while playing.

I’m not sure if it’s causation or correlation, but it seems disc golf and social distancing go hand in hand.

Bicycles.

Ride rail trails.
Ride flat river bottom single track.
Ride gravel roads.

All are adventurous and a healthy 10yo can handle at least one of them(and likely more).

It's an activity that requires constant focus, improves balance and core strength, is aerobic, and potentially uses a ton of energy.

At easiest- ride trails or paths to a park or a couple parks he has never been to. Or ride to get ice cream or some lunch.

Harder- find MTB trails and work on balance, core strength, tempo, and gear decisions.

Even more challenging- map out some gravel routes and let him practice and improve in all the ways already mentioned, while building up endurance from distance. Ride to state parks or a lake or whatever for a break.

Make it fun. Challenge but accomplishable. Set goals and rewards.

Umm, in Mississippi it’s turkey season. That’s all the outside entertainment they will every need. I got my 6 year old at camp right now and he’s pumped about going on his first turkey hunt in the am. Hope we can just hear one gobble up close.

Took my 4 yr old turkey hunting last weekend. He loved it. It was followed up with a trip to Waffle House. He wants to go again in the morning.

There's nothing quite like seeing the sun come up over the majestic peaks of Winona. That crisp mountain air really lets you know you're alive.***

Not sure how far of a drive it would be for you, but NW Alabama near Double Springs has Bankhead National Forest and the Sipsey Wilderness Trails. Miles of trails through gorgeous sandstone river canyons and the water falls, which the area is known for, will be crazy right now. Not to mentioned fairly large caves with Native American artifacts/carvings. It's a great place to cut your teeth overnight backpacking. THere's also the natural bridge which is pretty cool.

Sipsey has great rock climbing as well. My buddies and I went backpacking/climbing there for spring break one year while we were at State. Ended up in a snow and ice storm, crazy. Think that was 96.
