I know the survival rate is not good with pancreatic cancer. Are there cures on the horizon?

Heaven If it is inside the organ not really. There is a 5 percent zone where success is pretty good. Not sure what Alex Trebek has but he is optimistic. But he is an optimistic guy. I have seen more stood next to and learned more about cancer in the past month than I ever thought I would. I have watched an entire head of hair fall out in 3 days this week. My best to Gibby. He is a national treasure.

Godspeed, brother. Hope you and your loved one stay strong and fight!

Monk, I would take my Mom and Dad back in a heartbeat, with or without hair. I hope your loved one is one of the fortunate who get through and both if you have happier days ahead.

One of my favorite baseball anecdotes ever is about the kind of competitor Gibson was on the hill. Whoever was telling the story said Gibson would throw at you twice to let you know the first one wasn’t an accident.

Here’s to fighting his illness with that same kind of spirit. Give it hell, Bob.

Yes, they did. I think they lowered the mound after that one awesome season he had. 1968 22-9 with a 1.12 ERA.
My favorite Gibson story is told by Tim McCarver. Once during a game McCarver was catching for the Cardinals and started out to the mound to talk to Gibson during a tough stretch. Gibson just yelled at him " Go right back where you came from. You don't know anything about what's going on out here."

Bob Gibson is one tough guy but not only is this a battle that might be beyond even him, he's also 83.

Best of luck to him.

Heaven She has two beautiful wigs that she is obsessing about which takes her mind off of the cancer. She is a fighter. A nut but a fighter.:boxing:

Didn’t they change the rules because of him?
In 1968, after Gibson's incredible 1.12 ERA season, MLB lowered the mound and contracted the strike zone. Can't say these changes were entirely because of him, but he was certainly a key driver.

Not the best of times for this Yankees fan. And if things couldn't get worse, a mediocre Mets team won the friggin World Series the following season. Lucky for me I was too busy at Rutgers doing lots of drugs and lots of women and lots of anti-war activities to spend too much time suffering over baseball.

Don't forget Denny McClain. In 1968 he went 31-6 with a era of 1.96.
