Engie referenced cooking on a Blackstone in the hibachi thread. For some reason I had never heard of this, but looks like something I “need”. What do I need to know before ordering one? Is there something better for griddle/grill combo?

We got a 4 burner 36" last week and I'm lovin it. Everything we've cooked on it has turned out great. Doing blackened catfish tonight. I would recommend being sure to get the new model with the rear oil drain, it works better.

Great advice. I’ve got the old model and the drip pan up front and the design of said drip pan is the worst thing about it. Tended to make a big mess. Only downside to the new model is as far as I know the add-on table you can get for ~ $80 isn’t compatible with it or at least wasn’t at my last check. Some other brands bigger or more heavy duty, but I’ve had good luck with my 36 overall. Feed 15-20 hibachi style on it a couple of times a year

They make the add on table for the new one but the cover won't go over it.

I pulled the trigger this afternoon and ordered the 36 inch with the grill attachment. Thanks for the input.

My mom bought me and my sister each one for Christmas. I've used mine twice. Takes up a good portion of my patio and is much harder to clean than a regular skillet or wok.

If my mom's feelings wouldn't be hurt - I'd give it away. My sister loves hers and uses it at least once per week, though.

Thanks for bringing this up. I was looking for a griddle and grill for my next house and this solves both. High marks from customers as well. Now I just need a small smoker (not as many mouths around to feed) that is versatile enough for standard smoking and for cold smoking bacon and cheese. I really don't want to have to build or buy a separate smoker.

Is awesome. I bought the four burner one about 6 months ago and love it. Easy as hell to cook on. You can do just about anything on this that you can do on a grill. And since the top is cast iron even steaks are great on it as well.

As stated the oil pan is the only drawback but I understand the new models have a different drain set up. Mine has the front troft with the pan on the right and it simply isn’t big enough and grease tends to drip down the side. But a little ingenuity can help overcome that issue. I simply prop a rag between the pan and the grill and that helps immensely.

As for cleaning, it is an easy and quick cleanup, but you have to do so while the grill is still pretty warm. Just so what the guy at UMI does to clean his And you are home free.
Takes about three minutes, that’s it.

I occasionally use a this $10 cast iron griddle from Academy on my Weber gas grill and accomplish the same thing on a smaller scale 20" x 9" and you can flip it over if you like grill marks.

Sounds like a good electric smoker would suit your needs. Masterbilt has some good units for the price. I have a couple I use when I don't want to fire up my big pit for small scale stuff. They have add ons you can buy to do cold smokes.

Agreed on cleaning. Get a wide putty knife and scrape while hot. Also be sure to pre-season well.

Been using this with great success to deal with the drip pan issue. https://www.amazon.com/Blackstone-D...id=1526398113&sr=8-4&keywords=blackstone+drip

Buy the biggest, longest spatulas u can get. You'll burn the nerve endings out of your hands pretty quick with normal household size having to put your hands over the heat.

It really needs to come with screw type adjustable casters for leveling purposes. A lot more of a fight than you'd think depending on your slab and it makes a big difference in this type of cooking keeping your seasoning with the food vs running toward the lowest corner. I ended up hacking up wood clamps for the screw attachment and trigger type raising and lowering and self-tapping them to the legs for leveling purposes. I transport it a good bit for cooking and need the ability to adjust on the fly there. Still looking for a better solution since this gives it practically no ground clearance and only lets the front casters rotate about 90*

The slope of your patio can make the first time a pain. I cut a strip of plywood and just rolled the back wheels on it. Now it has just enough slope to run the excess grease out to the back drip pan. I would also recommend getting better spatulas. My wife bought the kit with the griddle and those supplied spatulas can get hot.

I will give you a hundred dollars for it, if you are close to Starkville I will pick it up.

It's a flat top griddle, have y'all ever been to a Waffle House? Sit at the bar and you might learn something.

Yeahhh, this is nothing at all like BGE and Yeti.

If you had said Akorn and Ozark Trail, you might be onto something.

Have never owned or bought a yeti. Never owned a BGE. I'm the guy that bought the used Titan for half what the used Tundra costs while preferring the Yoda.

For under $400 here, you have a 4 burner 60k btu grill top, along with a griddle top attachment, that you just swap out without any tools in about two minutes. It allows the possibility to replace your gas grill altogether. In essence, the griddle top "costs" $80 because that's the price to add the normal grill top. Although I haven't actually done this yet because my gas grill has another couple of years left on it. And there's a little trepidation on my part to getting all the nastiness that comes with grilling down inside the blackstone. With the flat top, I think it is probably going to last forever with nothing getting down inside it to cause it to rust. The 36" blackstone griddle itself is $270.

I've never heard of Blackstone till this thread and I'll be damned if I didn't a commercial for them on TV last night. You MFers are trend setters.

We have an event every year that I sponsor the breakfast for, it was this past weekend. This year I used a buddy's 36" Blackstone and did the cooking for 70+ folks. It was amazing how much faster and easier it was this year. I'll own one of these very soon. While I think the cart is a little flimsy, that griddle top is built to last.

As I posted, my mom will get her feelings hurt if it suddenly disappeared. I live on the coast, but come to all the FB games. Used twice and on my patio with the cover on it. Maybe we can work something out towards the end of the upcoming season after she forgets about it..:
