I'm trying to buy Bitcoin on the Sofi website, but it says I'm unable to do so b/c I live in New Jersey (there's 4-5 states prohibited from buying it on their website). Anyone know a legit, reliable and safe site I can purchase it from with no issues? Robinhood, Coin Base, etc. - thank you!

A liquor store near my house has a machine where you can but it.

You answered your own question, you can do it on Robinhood or Coinbase. Coinbase charges fees but I'm pretty sure Robinhood is free.

And what's the commission, if it is even legit in the first place?
I have no idea on either front.

Employee at the store says no one ever uses it. Think there were a bunch of boxes stacked around it last time I was there.

You want to exchange currency backed by the US government and the strongest military in the world for a computer algorithm code created by an unknown entity without any method to verify its scarcity.

It might be easier to buy GBTC which is a trust that is 100% invested in bitcoin and moves pretty much in concert with bitcoin. It is bought and sold like a stock on any trading site you wish to use. A good site to bookmark that'll keep you up to date on bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is CoinDesk.

I bought $500 worth back at the end of August, on Robinhood. Current value approx. $1,206. Considering setting up an auto-invest (nothing dramatic, maybe like $50 or $100/month). Certainly not using it as a primary investment, just thought it would be a nice option that could potentially do well, long-term. TBD.

I'm interested. What are you thinking?

I was thinking $150 including shipping. I know that’s a bit of a premium but it is 50 years old and seems to be rare. I can list it on ebay and link it here if you’re interested. I need the money for a flight home.

I know a lot of people like crypto-currencies. It seems like they will just grow. However I dont trust anything thats dependent on internet/web/widecast computer systems. Everything is hackable and I've long said the internet is a disaster waiting to happen. You can't keep a window closed and open at the same time. If the window can open, bad stuff can get in - even if its just from a thumb drive from a mediocre employee working for a sub. Military, stock exchanges, IRS, DHS, State Dept, banks - everybody gets hacked and state actors do a lot of it (its not 16 yr old kids but they can hack stuff too). Maybe quantum and biometric security fixes some things.

I seen an NFL player wanted to be paid in bitcoin. Wonder if he knows bitcoin isn't tied to anything and can soar through the roof, and then crash through the basement in no time.

Yet a lot of people have made a lot of money on it.

That would happen whether people buy bitcoin or not. It's not like bitcoin is a company that needs investors to stay in business. American dollars are used for the actions you listed too, should we all get rid of our dollars?

Personally I'm skeptical of it being used as a currency in normal transactions due to its volatility, and it definitely isn't something that should be a huge chunk of your portfolio, but there's no denying that it is a way to make money. It is a way to lose money too, like any other volatile investment.

I checked out one of those machines a few months ago. there's something like a 30% spread between bid & ask on those machines. Screw the underlying bitcoin, I'd like to get in on that market and would gladly shave the spread in half.

I’ll play devils advocate

For those who [foolishly] don’t care about anything other than their wallet :
The US may not always be the strongest military in the world and our currency may very well tumble .... but enemy nations, “terrorists” and trafficking of all sorts will always exist.
If bitcoin really helps these groups, then the product is gold

Coinbase works.

btw you’re buying at the top.
This is appsolutly correct. If you really want BTC wait for the dip. I would be looking at the altcoins. Those with utilities is what I would focus on.

Hard to believe, tether really pumping things up
BTC and ETH are going to the moon! And associated blockchain companies. Based on past data and trends, the crypto bull market may last all of 2021. Also, due to the large amount of institutional support for BTC, when it drops, the floor is going to be much higher than before. Even at 50k+, BTC is probably a good buy.

Also, get ready for ETH going 🚀 🚀 🚀 🚀 🚀 .

ETH is close to a major upgrade that will dramatically lower user fees (i.e., gas). When this happens, the price may skyrocket.

I would be real careful with BTC. When things really get going BTC will be taken out. Invest, take profits on the way up and play with house money. In the end - BTC RIP.

BTC justed went parabolic and hit one of the technicals. You could see it coming. Today was that adjustment. BTC still has a run in it.
The bull run will likely last all of 2021 (based on the charts from the other halfing cycles).
