Voting for oldtimers instead of Belichick in his first time eligible sounds nice , but if only 3 can get in every year it might not be a fair way to treat him and voting for the best candidates for entry might be the best way to handle the vote , leaving sentiment out of the equation .
I say that because in 2027 theses players will be first time qualifiers ( from a google search):
>For the 2027 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, major first-year eligible candidates include
former quarterback
Tom Brady, tight end
Rob Gronkowski, quarterback
Ben Roethlisberger, running back
Adrian Peterson, and quarterback
Cam Newton. Coach Bill Belichick will also be under consideration again
Eli Manning (QB): Will likely remain on the ballot after not being voted in for the 2026 class
Every year great ones will be added, making it harder and harder for some to be voted in
A minimum of
three and a maximum of
five modern-era players can be elected each year.
Up to
three candidates from a combined group of seniors (players whose careers ended at least 25 years ago), a coach, and a contributor can be inducted annually.<
Bill should have been a first ballot entrant in my opinion, even tough all those that made it instead of him were deserving in their own right, just not as deserving as Belichick
