Thus far, the Devils have brought in d-man, Ben Lovejoy from PIT and center, Vernon Fiddler from DAL. They've also resigned Jon Merrill and Devante Smith-Pelly.

Also, Devils signed Bennett to a 1 year deal. Made all the moves they needed to make with their RFAs (I suspect those deals were done prior to today). Also both of their signings of UFAs seem to be positive. Lovejoy I think is better than Schlemko, especially given the 4 year term of the Schlemko deal. Fiddler is low risk (even if he is old) because it is only a 1 year deal and Devils aren't even over the cap floor yet.

Love the Taylor deal but definitely need more. We especially need some offense from our defense. It would be great if we could also land Fowler who is rumored to be available. Team still needs some more speed. Maybe Quinnville makes the team this year.

Need to sign DSP, Bennett, and Merrill very soon. Strange IMO that NJD did not extend qualifying offers to those three. They will be UFAs now on Friday unless signed.
I honestly believe that they had every intention of letting Merrill walk prior to the trade. He's been in Hynes' doghouse for what seems like forever.

Agreed. I'm wondering if they take a look at Brandon Pirri from the Ducks, a young forward who appears to fit their plan. Or maybe they look into someone like P.A. Parenteau or Radim Vrbata, both of whom have been rumored to be headed to NJ before. Jason Demers would also be a nice add defensively, as a proven player, still in his 20s, with a bit of a scoring touch from the point.

Merrill just is not very good. He was great at Michigan and the organization fell in love with him. He should have been moved years ago when he had value for a young forward. I wish we had kept Gelinas who at least had a great shot from the point. Merrill at this point contributes next to nothing.

How was your 2015 playoff run?
Great teams needs to rebuild too. How's your 30+ years of terrible hockey been treating you? devils are primed for thinking playoffs are a possibility already. Took you guys a while for that same line of thinking eh?..........

Gelinas has the hockey sense of a rock though.
I'm glad they moved him.

Gelinas was such a disappointment after his promising rookie season, really thought we might have the makings of a poor mans Pronger, instead we got treated to Kurtis Foster again.

Man that Palmieri deal is a bargain. Love what I've seen from Shero and Hynes so far.
