Then there’s Ooltewah, TN, (which I still haven’t figured out how to pronounce; is it “ew-ta-wah” or “ewl-ta-wah”?). There’s Soddy-Daisy right around the corner from there. North of there is Crab Orchard and Wartburg. Both sound very inviting. Big Sandy has a bad rap and Three Way leaves a lot of husbands very disappointed upon departure.

Mother In Law's family is from Soddy Daisy. Ooltewah is pronounced Eh-to-wah, Don't ask we why.

Pretty sure the name of that town used to be Las Vegas. They changed it not too awfully long ago (maybe 50 years).

Unless it's changed, you're OK to speed in Alabama on interstates through small towns. Police in small towns less than 25K don't have ticketing authority to prevent speed traps.Pretty sure Cullman falls under that restriction.

Crumrod, AR
Greasy Corner, AR
Marked Tree, AR

Been to Crumrod and Greasy Corner. There is also a park near Conway, AR called Toad Suck Park. WTH?

There is also a Toad Suck Festival there lol.

Other names in Arkansas I find funny are Bald Knob and Smackover

It’s actually west of Meridian. Just past the Lost Gap. And Big Daddy’s (RIP).
Whynot is somewhat south of Meridian though.

When I was a kid, a traveling revival preacher at my church told this story. It's probably not really his but it entertained 9 year old me.

He was doing a week of revival at a church near Kosciusko. He was was from out of state and had no idea how the name of the town was pronounced as he drove through. Not wanting to offend local residents he decided he better figure out how to pronounce "Kosciusko." He stopped at a popular southern chain restaurant and went inside. He placed an order and asked the cashier if she would mind slowly and carefully pronouncing where he was at the time. She said "Daaa ii rrrrr yyyy Qu eeeee nnnn."

The community I live in was called Pull Tight, MS years ago. Some of the older folks said they even mentioned it on Hee Haw years ago.

Otherwise, they'll know you're not a local. Also nearby is Hurricane, but that one should be pronounced "HAIR-ruh-kin".

“HUR-i-kin” or you can just shorten it to hur-kin

Somebody gave us a book for our kids - “Everywhere in Mississippi”. Story about looking for a dog that’s run away. It lists a lot of the towns in the state. Amazing how many I’ve never heard of.

Yep! Been there too (obviously if I went to Crumrod). I'm working on a project down there now.
