it’s the truth!

Seriously, make the drive and check it out.

Rubens In Columbus used to be Incredible but I haven't been in a decade or so. I hear it's not what it used to be which sucks

They are all roughly the same, I certainly wouldn't drive two hours to Itta Bena for Larrys. It's fish, salt, pepper, flour, cornmeal and vegetable oil, there's no secret recipe.

Friendship House is great. Catfish has its limits of flavors you can throw at it. You’re really going for who does better hush puppies and coleslaw. Friendship house does a great whole catfish with good sides. Ezells in Pennington, Alabama is(or at least used to be) the best in the twin states.

If you are in northwest MS I've always heard Corky's has really good catfish. Never verified this because I'm not a big catfish person. Maybe some others can confirm or deny.

Cock of the Walk on the Rez is about as good as I’ve had.

Absolutely. It may not be the cool choice because they've been around for decades, but still the best to me considering the quality of everything offered. And I've eaten at a bunch of the better catfish joints.

Forgot about Cock of The Walk.
Used to be some other ones, Birmingham, Mobile but they have all closed but the Reservoir location is still very good. Hope it continues!

Dooey has the best fried catfish, but if you're looking for a vintage, hole-in-the-wall fish house, Carmack. Surprised that someone else mentioned it.

I would disagree. You put flour in the mix you’ve lost already. As someone earlier said tho, it’s too about the slaw and hush puppies and if you have some good raw onions to go with it.
I love some ice cold BL and craft beers but with fried catfish, it’s all about the sweet tea as well.

its more than an hour but Catfish Country in Booneville is really good.

Just over line in Shiloh, Tn is Hagy’s catfish hotel. That would be the place I pick if I was forever limited to only one catfish place.

It's not in MS but if ya'll are ever in the north end of Tishomingo County drive 10 minutes over to Counce, TN and go to the Redwood Hut. Best catfish I've ever had.

Im a catfish farmer and Larry’s is who we use every year to feed the state house, senate and governors offices.

Little dooeys is only fried I’ve had in Starkville

Moss creek in pearl is good.

Middendorfs for the win out of state.

I hate to deal in hypotheticals. But the only/best/alltime catfish was made at Top O’ The River in Vicksburg MS. I wish some of you could experience it. It was fantastic.

Lots of good choices but, The Walnut Grove Fish House gets my vote too.
I have been eating there since it opened in the mid-70's.
I have eaten catfish all over the southern US and TWGFH is a consistent winner in my opinion.

It’s all in the breading. Just yellow corn meal does nothing for me. Grew up in Delta, so if it didn’t have Bearden’s breading on it; it ain’t no good.

Going to Longs Fishcamp in Enterprise tonight (Meridian Area if not familiar), partially due to this thread.... Good food and been in business over 50 years.

Troy Smith owns Long's, and is a good friend of mine. He was recently elected to the MS Legislature. His brother and sister-in-law both teach at State and live in Starkville. Great food and great people.

It’s a food trough, but I’ve always thought the catfish at the Checkerboard in Meridian was really good.

Dooeys catfish is the best thing on their menu...also the catfish with crawfish sauce at Anthony’s is undefeated
Truer words have never been spoken. Order that same craw fish sauce on a med rare rib eye and you will think you are in heaven. Mrs Bite usually orders the catfish with craw fish sauce and I order the rib eye with craw fish sauce and when it arrives we immediately cut both in half and make our own surf and turf. Damn, I'm hungry.

Shaw's all you can eat in Kiln is good, but Cock of the Walk is the only answer.

Anyone remember the Back 40 in Forest in the 80s/90s? I was a very small child, and it was a seafood buffet, but it's how I was introduced to crab claws. Never seen crab claws on a buffet since

This is the truth regarding Dooey. The best catfish and hush puppies around to me is soul fish in Memphis, although that's further than an hour from Vegas. They're supposedly opening one in oxford, though.

Absolutely! I am a crappie fisherman and that is my favorite fish eat, but when I want catfish I love to eat at Long's. Their coleslaw is 2nd to none and also excellent fried shrimp. I try to eat there every time I go visit my in laws in Pachuta.
