Be it mineral or whatever.
I can remember the cast of Leave it to Beaver, The Munsters and Gillian’s Island.
I can name the entire no name defense or Steal Curtain.
I can tell you 69 Mets lineup pitching staff and thier numbers.
But I can’t remember anyone’s name I meet new today.
If I’ve never met you and had lunch with you yesterday, there’s no chance I’ll remember your name today.
Can I do anything for that... lol

Seriously, Ginko Biloba works wonders for me. Maybe not pure memory, but it enables me able to think a lot clearer, especially when having to think a few steps out.

It could be a matter of what is important to remember. If you had lunch with a beautiful woman, I would wager that you would have total recall as to her name for months.

Is there any website that can be trusted to give honest information on supplements? Seems like supplements in the US is a multi billion dollar placebo business.

If you ask your doctor there are several simple tests which can help to determine if you are at risk for Alzheimer’s. Most primary care physicians can perform this simple test in the office. What you describe is relatively normal in the aging process. Short term memory such as forgetting where you placed those car keys ? Or remembering someone’s name doesn’t mean you are developing this dreaded disease.I have known people who in their late 40’s developed Alzheimer’s.That is early by most standards. One thing I have always believed and it may be hocus locus.Eat plenty of seafood( screw the mercury) especially those with high oil content. What was the saying “ brain food”. Salmon, sardines, herring etc. But let’s be fair it does come down to genetics and lifestyle.Zappaa your dad lived a long life and seemed pretty with it even in those final years let’s hope that bodes well for the Berra boys.

I think I can still imitate the batting stance of everyone on the 86 Mets.

I think I can do the same for the 69 mets

Jones, Agee,Swoboda/Shamsky, Clendenon, Boswell/Weis, Harrelson, Charles and Grote.

Zap,

You are certainly not alone with what you are experiencing. Can be a little scary at times when you blank on something you have seemingly been able to recall at will before. I do think short term is the first to go. My mom who is 85 is really struggling, which can be very sad to see.

I think our brains are too full and have reached their memory limits - like an Ipad. Unfortunately we can't add memory (like android tablets) - lol

Long distance running is a great brain boost. Learning a new skill like a language, or quilting, or any other mental challenge that is unfamiliar is helpful.

the study and development of systems for improving and assisting the memory.

We're bombarded with new information at a far greater rate than in 1969. You have to work to tag new information that you want to retain and let the rest pass as noise. If you don't work at it your mind won't remember it. Invest some time to learn the tricks. If you can remember the 69 Mets you might also remember Knicks center Jerry Lucas who used to memorize 50 pages of the NYC phone book in 1 sitting. Get his book....nothing has changed ....

Do you have Kindle?

OK...I did it myself. 2 devices $3.19 with tax. Now I have skin in the game.

Can you do anything for that? Other than stop getting older?

What about focus? ... I’ve found that the older I’ve gotten and the more I’ve gotten on my plate, the harder it has become for me to focus. I used to be able to buckle down and knock out a task for hours on end at work, now I’m so scattered in my thinking and focus, it actually worries me.

Any supplements (last choice), exercises, or techniques (first choice) that I can try?

Don’t feel bad, I’ve given up trying to remember peoples names. Never could. However, never forgot a face. Or, if I was somewhere once, and go there again many years later, I remember just about everything.

To answer your question, one opinion is a very healthy diet (I’m vegan, so, you might not like what I consume daily). Also, keep using your mind. Mental calisthenics will only help keep your mind fit.

Even the Tuefel Shuffle?
Ugh, I hated Tuefel, his batting stance, and that damn platoon by Davey Johnson lol. I was a huge Wally Backman fan. My younger brother liked Tuefel. To this day I think he liked Tuefel because he knew it would annoy me as a Backman fan.

Two things:

1) Give your brain some "new" things to focus on -- I find it helpful to at least TRY to tune into what the teenagers are doing, what they're listening to, what they're interested in, etc. It gives you a whole new set of ideas, thoughts, things to debate over, things to talk about, ways to connect with others. Reading a lot of different types of things can help do this, too.

2) Get a "Bop-It" and spend some time with it, every day. Keeps you pliable and dextrous, which is always a good thing . . .

Long term memory still good, " I remember when Rutgers was good ".
Short term memory questionable, " I can't remember when we were good ".
No real cure so far.

My memory, especially my short term memory, is not good either. But I can remember Tim Tuefil’s grand slam in the 10th inning to beat my Phillies at Shea stadium.... so I hated him as well.
