That's what I was thinking-- why would anyone bitching about Pike ' s record think a guy with a similar record could be the choice of a Big school.

Lathan has done nothing to command that price so not worth the effort..you are comparing him to players who got that much who accomplished much more

Only payed 1.9 million lowest in league. Not retaining players...good job by AD being proactive rather than going through another year or 2 of mediocrity or worse

Minnesota went 56-71 under Johnson, including 22-57 in conference play.

We need to be proactive also. Find the money.

Kevin Keatts had 5 20 win seasons in 8 years at NC State

Made 3 ncaa tournaments in the 7 years it was held and probably wouldve made a 4th in the covid season

NC State is a little in over their skis with how good they think they should be and will probably find that out with their next hire

He will coach somewhere else next year or the year after and be successful... Ben Johnson hasn't given anyone a reason to think he will succeed at he high major level

We don't know. There could be other reasons other than W's that these guys were let go.

There are NO shortcuts in recruiting......the more you hit the portal, the faster a coach will get fired....

2021 Minny recruiting

2 High school kids
7 transfers.

2022 Minny recruiting

5 High school kids
3 transfers

2023 Minny recruiting

Cam Cbristie was so good for Minnesota, he left for the NBA after 1 season

2 HS kids (Christie was one)
4 transfers

2024 Minny recruiting

2 HS kids
6 transfers

2025 recruiting (likely up for grabs now)

3 HS kids (Top 150 to 200 range).

There's no path to reach the Top half of a league this good, by cutting corners in the portal......the portal will get more coaches fired than extended.

If you only sign 11 HS kids over a 4 year span at Minny and 1 goes to the NBA, 3 transfer to other programs, you are toast.

If Minnesota grabs 4 kids from HS from 2021, 22, 23, 24 and signed in 25, he would have 15 to 20 kids who have been through his program, his development and the school probably gives him another year, because there's depth and connection to the program. Programs like Minnesota are not going to outrecruit other B1G programs in the portal.......RU and Pike (I think) realize that now and have signed 3 kids beyond Dylan and Ace in 2024 and another 4 in 2025.

Getting another 3 to 4 HS kids for the class of 2026, is the right path for RU. Once that happens and the depth develops, if a kid or 2 departs via the portal, it's not a back-breaker.

What standard are you comparing too? Mediocrity for who? 15-17 would be good enough for 9th best record over last 30 years. Rutgers has had 8 winnings seasons in 30 years. Pikiell is responsible for a 4 of them.

Pikiell is a miracle worker. stop complaining, open your wallet and help get some players.
