I’d expect him to use the portal more just like Deion did. It’s only a 3 year contract so he’ll want potential for quick results.

Publicity wise it’s a HR like Deion but performance wise time will tell.
It’s actually a 5yr deal not the previously reported 3

There is a comment in a later tweet indicating this is separate from revenue sharing
Here’s another commenter who said the site (Inside Carolina) who first broke the news that this was coming to fruition said it’s revenue sharing (which is also NIL but just from the school) and what we currently know as NIL (outside sources)

I do not see any way in which his heart will be in this. This is a pay day for him as he rides off into old age.

If being a head coach at this level takes up as much of one's time as I think it does, why would he want to spend it with a bunch of young men when he can instead be off at some tropical resort with his new young girlfriend ?

College teams becoming NFL teams... this is the beginning

When are the salary caps coming in as well as the college football draft?
Alabama was basically an NFL team under Saban. Georgia is basically an NFL team under Smart now. The revolution is already here. They'll have to drag the bluebloods kicking and screaming into a world with a draft and a salary cap.

I think he genuinely wants to coach but under his terms preferably at the NFL level but no one is biting, atleast not anyone that is uniquely positioned to win now because after how his rebuild in NE went I doubt a team or him wants a ground up job.

The only team that made sense to me was the Bills (I am a fan), they have the QB, the base of their offense was installed by one of his disciples, and they can’t get over the hump mainly because their defense fails in spots where Belichick’s defenses traditionally thrived. If they crash out in the first or second round of the playoffs again, I wouldn’t be shocked if he ditches UNC like he did to the Jets and answer the call from Buffalo to get them over the top. That way he gets to break Shula’s record, and get a chance to “pull a Brady” and win one without the person who’s legacy he will always be tied to.

If that doesn’t happen I think he will follow through on the UNC deal and probably be a good college coach. It sounds like UNC is going to back up the truck, so NIL alone will ensure he doesn’t suck, it’s just a matter if he is CFP good or Mack Brown 2.0.

As far as the revenue sharing piece there is a cap already. NIL from outside sources is as it is now but NIL from the schools (revenue sharing) is capped around low 20M range for all sports. The anticipation is about 15-17M of that will be for football.

Also schools don't necessarily have to spend up to that cap, not sure if there is a minimum though based on whatever a particular school's current revenue is.

Moving NIL money from $4mil to 20 is a step in the right direction.
Deion Sanders hiring had Colorado boosters dig deeper in their pockets
I expect NC boosters to do the same because of Bill .

Woah woah wait a minute. A university hires someone to be a "General Manager" for its football team? Is UNC an NFL franchise now?

Just heard Bill say in his presser that he is going to manage the scouts. Scouts? His phone must be ringing off the hook by any position coach who hates recruiting duties.

This. PE firms will own them soon which will complete the process. AD's and head coaches will then report to them.

Players are getting paid now. Of course it's professional and will be run like it.

But it’s not necessarily just boosters. A lot of schools are going to be jumping in NIL because of revenue sharing. Schools paying players will also be classified as NIL and the anticipation is about 15-17M of that low 20M cap will be allocated to football.

A bunch of schools already have GMs and player personnel type staff. In one these threads, maybe coaching carousel, I posted the salary for some of those GMs that were in a tweet.

Just like Deion. There will be big buzz around that program next year and ratings will likely be big.
I hope you're wrong on the ratings part but I don't think you are. I have no dislike of BB but I really can't stand that school and their obnoxious fanbase. I don't want to see them succeed at anything.

Whether he succeeds or not who knows only time will tell but I think for certain the buzz will be there big time, at least initially. If he wins it’ll just get stronger and if not it’ll eventually die out.

Can’t vision him recruiting and visiting recruits in their homes. Could see him handing this off to son real quick.
Steven Belichick can play Hunter Biden’s role to recruit for his dad.

Will other schools follow Belichicks approach to run their college program like an NFL team? Probably.

Wouldn't be surprised if that 5 year deal turned to him retiring after 3 with his son moved up from DC ( if Steve is hired or the other son Brian becomes DC ) to HC taking over for a guaranteed 2 years and being extended or terminated based on performance.

It could be one. The bar to leave before the season even starts is just 1M lol.

Heard an interesting take.

College actually makes perfect sense for BB.
If he wants to control every aspect of the program (see HC Schiano or Saban for example) then college is it.
You can't do that in the NFL anymore.

Lombardi isn't going to push back on anything against BB. Just listen to any podcast Lombardi has ever been on (he's not my favorite guest to be honest).

It's the same reason people say Schiano wouldn't go back to the NFL. You have to give up control.

Isn't the GM technically the boss of the HC?
Is there any way one of these GMs has the authority to fire someone?

The title is GM but it's no pro set up like that. The AD is the boss (assuming the coach doesn't have crazy power) and the GM is personnel guy for player management. I suppose if he's head of the personnel staff, the GM has big say in who stays or goes on that staff but I wouldn't expect it beyond that.
