Both ABW beer bills have passed their respective committees and are off to the floor. This is the furthest any bill like it has been.<div>
</div><div>SB2878 and HB1422 are the bill numbers. Both would raise the ABW from 5% to 8% or roughly 10% ABV.</div>

why can you get beer at 6.5% at Bulldog?

Also, isn'tAnnheiser Buschbacking down from whatever they were doing to prevent this from going through?

I don't think you can get 6.5% ABV at the Bulldog... You might need to check that label again...

I was at a Super Bowl party and saw their ad for their new "premium" beer, and wondered out loud if that would mean they would take the brakes off of all the politicians preventing the beer law from going forward. A guy there who was involved in MS public policy related to me that the process was already in the works and it looked like it was going to pass the Senate. However, there is still some question as to whether it will pass the House. <div>
</div><div>So, yes. AB got into the market, then backed down.</div><div>
</div><div>I almost want to vomit thinking about how unbelievably +$%%*$ up MS's legislature is if something this underhanded has to happen just to get a beer law passed.</div>

The law is no greater than 5% ABW, not 6% as posted below. But, most labels report ABV (alcohol content as a percentage of volume rather than weight, I believe). So, depending on the density of the beer, ABV can be a percent or so above ABW. I'm not sure if I've ever seen 6.5%, but 6% ABV is quite common. Personally, I don't really care to have any higher gravity beer, I just want the law changed to improve selection (breweries will now see it profitable to introduce all of their beer to Mississippi) and encourage new Mississippi breweries. It's a silly law, obviously, when you consider wine and liquor are readily available.<div>

DogFish Head has some stout beers. I visited a buddy in Delaware and went to their brewery and had their 120 min IPA it was 18% Al. My favorite however was the Chateau Jihau and the Midas Touch. Both recipes date back to several thousand years ago as they were found in ancient tombs. Hence "Midas" as in King Midas. Both of those beers were around 10-12% Al. I'd love to see them distribute down this way. Not to mention Yeungling beer cannot be found in MS.
