Only issue I have had in all the years here. I was standing in front of a house on Brielle (@koleszar knows which one) and without thinking stepped on to the sidewalk carrying an open beer. Boom! A cop appeared out of nowhere and threatened to arrest me???? Ended up with a warning.
How is my New York friend doing? Is she renting to all the riff raff? I got paid in cash, didn't want my name on any contract, incase any locals went snooping around. I've got a reputation to keep, don't want to piss off the indigenous population. 🤣

Weird thread for sure.

Why would anyone bother to engage some obnoxious young women shotgunning drinks at a public beach?

I think “mind your own business and hope they get caught” is probably the default response. If they don’t get caught quickly, consider ratting them out.

Those girls saw a meme that said "Ain't no laws when you're drinking Claws"

yes in Spring Lake and Sea Girt. You have to leave your cooler on the boardwalk and go up and eat there. You could only have water by where you were sitting.

Many years ago i was drinking a beer on the Sea Girt beach and the cop came over to me and told me I had to put my cooler up on the boardwalk my been was concealed though so i did not get a ticket....
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Are they just trying to ostracize Bennies and those outside of walking distance?

Or is the idea to keep the beach cleaner? In an overbearing, clinical OCD-type way?

I think its to keep out the "riff raff" aka anyone who is not from the shore area. Funny thing is since the beach fees are so high all of the folks who cant afford to pay mostly POC show up at 4:30 and get on for free . I don't think they enforce the cooler restriction after 5 pm but i could be wrong

I was at the river beach in 'Squan last summer that allows dogs and there was a group of 20 somethings drinking beer on the beach. The woman took her beer cans and threw them in the woods behind her blanket.

I went over and had a conversation with them and they promptly went and pulled their cans out of the woods. Wife and kids thought i was going to get beat up by the guys in the group LOL. Maybe they were scared of the fine?
That beach is owned by the county so you can get away with more. The county patrols it just a few times a day.

It's Spring Lake dude, there's a reason for also no on street parking after sundown. They simply don't want large outside crowds. I used to run the boards from Belmar to end of Spring Lake everyday, personally the place is pretty boring. But it's the way the Old money wants it.

Last summer I felt like the Akagi at Midway.

You are not wrong.

I usually stay sometimes as late as 8 (when the Pavilion lockers close) and enjoy seeing the huge families come down to enjoy the beach…all ages and all ethnicities.

Isnt it ok to drink at Sandy Hook because it’s federal, not NJ land? Never saw the staff patrolling the beaches there for booze.

Always thought it was illegal not to drink at Sandy Hook.😀
It changed a couple summers ago. Too many people who couldnt drink responsibly. They now patrol the beach lighty (probably due to staff shortages), and once they find obvious booze, they dump everything the person has for all to see and issue a ticket.

They should move their beach to less of a central location in the most crowded part of the Jersey Shore then 😄

Good points.

I might just have to go out of my way to travel the 2,000 miles and bring a stealthy cooler (loaded with inconspicuous booze) to Spring Lake. Might even camp out for the night 😀

Theres a new Ocean Beach club in Seaside Heights that has a huge pool and will be serving Alcohol. Site is almost finished and Cabanas are going for around 25g...Its on the most southern part of Seaside Heights and is a private beach. To its North is Seaside Heights public beaches and to it south is Funtown Beach (BYOB) in Seaside Park...They are also looking to add a 2500 seat arena for concert and big events. Theres an article that just came out with great photos but I cant find it...Took a tour of the place last week and it is something you would see in Miami

Funny they are very happy to accept the millions in tax money that the "little" people send to Trenton and Washington to pump up the sand on their beaches and yet they have accountants and lawyers that help them evade paying those very same taxes

Since the tread is on full tilt derail:

Remember when the SPCA Sheriff Buddy Amato busted a guy for assaulting/killing a seagull with a wiffle bat because the gull was disturbing his lunch.

Buddy Amato resigned years later after being accused of hate texts:

But the person who sued him had a litigious history:

No, they only go after Springsteen. They set up sting operations just to target him, so says his guitarist. 🙄 The average federal park police officer probably has no idea what Springsteen looks like. They need to put former men's hoops coach Mike Rice on Sandy Hook.

Cabanas start at 7500 and go to 27500 per year. I believe the pool is closed to the public and that you need to own a cabana to get access to it.

Our old beach club in Sea Bright was like that. I would imagine if it was still around today that would roughly be the going rate.

The filthy effluent from awreck Pond on the other end that closes the Brown Ave beach several yes per year is a good deterrent.

Agree. The posts criticizing the guy for not warning the girls were just bizzare and clueless.

If I was in that situation I would have assumed there would be a 99.99% chance that any attempt to “warn” them would have been met with some super-entitled “who are you talking to? shut your mouth” type of response. Not worth the effort in many many ways

I saw a group of girls shotgunning Claws on the beach in Belmar last Saturday. The one dummy told her friend that you are allowed to drink on the beach now in Belmar because of COVID. She said to trust her, it's a new law.

They shotgunned a few each and then yeah......that's not a new law. They all got tickets. Haha, I sat there a few feet away with my aluminum bottle having my beverage without a worry in the world watching.
Belmar, all class all the time. 😜

I know some of the cops in town, also on Brielle it isn't that hard to just walk along the properties and not onto the sidewalk...I have heard :)

I think we need to ask ourselves why in many countries drinking in public isn't a crime.

When I graduated college, I went on a trip to Europe. I did a bar crawl in Berlin. They were pouring vodka shots on S-Bahn (their subway) as locals just shrugged.

It'd be a good lesson for the shore.

If you were an intrepid person with a lot of money, you could rent in the central part of Spring Lake and not even need an Uber to go to Parker House and DJais.

The centrality is why some people rent in Spring Lake Heights. No beach, but lots of booze, some houses with pools, and the one of the best breakfast/lunch places in Capsize Cafe. And then just a little further afield to Squan and Asbury.

Wise guy LOL.

It was Labor Day. A couple ladies I worked with were renting one of the apt's. Their lease was up and were loading up a car parked in front. I grabbed a suitcase to help and brought it to the car and got caught.

One of the woman begged the cop not to charge me then broke into tears. Cop let me go with a warning. After we walked back inside she laughed and said something like "it works every time".

I don’t think ultra orthodox people from Lakewood count as POC ;)

We have season passes for Avon by the Sea this year. Free parking was a big selling point, plus the beach is so much more flat walking into the surf, I guess after the boat inlet, the sand spread different. The crowd is more our speed nowadays, lol

The cops love me down here, no issues 😉

I’ll stop by to do a shot with ya, I’ll look for the hammer -‘and sickle flag? Or a Rutgers flag? 😆
Even though you were a huge supporter of tho mob beating police Jan 6. Have you let them know that or you wanted to be a part of it?

Bet that'd change a few minds.

Maybe you should show too so people don't think all R's are insane.

On 2nd thought.......😉
My northern shore riff-raff days are long over! We moved our beach fun to the refined and snobby Seven Mile Island, but with a few day trips to Spring Lake. We also have close friends in Bradley Beach, so we go there 2-3 times a season.

Hard pass on Belmar and such places. LOL!
