Capitalism has given more to humanity and has raised all ships.

...but the earnings are so far from my personal planet that I am not as engaged with pro sports as I used to. I am 41.

I truly enjoy BC and Harvard baeball games on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

I played organized baseball until I was 26, faced Jim Bouton and his knuckleball when his MLB career was over. Diehard Mets fan since Seaver's rookie year. I can't watch a complete game anymore. SO, HR and BB comprise almost 50% of the offense. No hit and runs, sacrifice bunts, hitting to the opposite field against a shift. Sorry, sounds old school but the game is boring to me now.
Amen!

Meh. Sacrifice bunts were never exciting. I am of the old school Earl Weaver game, swing away.

Baseball when it is good is really good, but after opening day, it’s hard to really care about games until playoff races heat up.

Locally it’s a pain in the frickin butt to get to a Mets or Yanks game.

I love baseball especially summer night games.. It's very majestic..the sky gets pink, the lights come on..it gets a bit chilly and you need a lightweight sweatshirt..and my favorite part- a pretzel and garlic fries..ahh:baseball: so basically I need food and a sunset! Lmaoo

Me and a few buds split the MLB.tv package each year. 18 bucks a guy and access to basically all games for all teams for the whole year. Can watch on multiple devices. Really reduces the need to go see games.

Our Mayor Big Bird signed an executive order to ban alcohol ads on city property. Could banning alcohol at athletic events be far behind?

Will never happen. Quite the opposite. It's such a profit maker, more and more colleges are going to beer and wine sales for extra revenue. Even Rutgers. Their studies supposedly show it reduces binge drinking before games at the tailgates and alcohol arrests go down.

Basketball is having similar problems with the 3 point shot.

Hardly anything else matters anymore.

Outrageous pricing on everything from parking, tickets and food and umpires who somehow have become main attraction in their minds. You can have it. Take a college football game over a MLB any day of the week.

Just watch game 1 of the 1973 NLCS on YT. Jack Billingham vs Tom Seaver. Games was played at 4p in the afternoon and was finished in well under 2 hours. The ALCS game that day was played at 1p ET between A's and the Orioles, Compare to today when games can go past midnight on the east coast.

Cold, mid week games in April and May usually have lower attendance than when the weather warms up in the summer, and when kids are out of school.
Funny how that works.

When you Pro boycott sports for political reasons, like Kate Smith and Colin Kapernick, college sports because of liberal stances on campuses , amateur sports because of participation trophies and title IX outrage, then your favorite pastime might actually be political outrage and not sports.

That paragraph is awesome. Truly.

Sure, there can be reasons not to give someone your money. Chick-Fil-A in my case, because they actively spend money to screw over people like me, and me helping them fund that is unthinkable. But the standards for anger are absurd, and the reaction is so out of proportion to the "crime" in most cases.

Another snoozefest in Flushing today

No wonder why there are 80% empty seats at Mets games
If I lived in NY and was a subway away a few games might be nice. However, commuting to NY for 2 hrs one way is tough. My nephew before he got married and had kids use to get Mets and Knicks partial season tickets. He loves the Mets games.
