Rented a car a few weeks back doing the college tours with my son. Returned it at the airport at the drop off and go. Just got in the mail that they want to charge me $430 for windshield damage. The best part is they sent me a picture of the damage but I can’t find it. Called the customer service and asked them if they can find it in the picture and they couldn’t. However, they insisted there was damage. Luckily I took the insurance but what a clown show.

We always use Alamo. Never any problems.

I had this happen with another company. Just ignore it and they will go away. They will send a free emails and a letter and then give up

Unless they acknowledge this at the time of check in they have no case.
You returned it and they accepted the return.

They charged my CC already.
I always use AMex. My United plus card is good too for disputes. I have been with them for a while and for what they get as a yearly fee, they do go out of their way to help. And never, ever use a debit card.

As for Hertz, check out Steve Leyto on utube. Hertz has multiple incidents where customers have been arrested for driving Hertz vehicles they rented that were reported as stolen. Hertz has settled over 300 cases paying $168 million to customers wrongfully arrested and some jailed.

I might start using hertz just to get some free money. Maybe even get a nice night of peace and quiet in the slammer as a bonus

They jacked me $48 for 2 gallons of gas bc I did not refill.
I typically rent from Enterprise. I don't like it when they give you the car with some odd ball amount of gas, like 5/8 of a tank. They're not getting a pint more out of me so when I'm gassing up prior to return and I got 3/16 of a tank I'll google the gas tank size of the car I'm renting say, 12 gallons, and in this scenario I'll add 0.4375 X 12 or 5.25 gallons.

I hadn't thought of that
Do you then show the person that's checking you out then you return so they don't charge you the difference?

What difference? I'm returning the car with the exact same amount of gas I had when I rented it. This original amount of gas is right on the contract.

Sorry not difference, but do you show the person when you're returning the car what was in there gas wise originally vs. when you return as to not get charged for not filling it up?

Always use Hertz and have never had anything but a great experience.
This is irrelevant data. I never had a problem using Hertz. Until I had a problem. I challenged the added charge with Hertz, challenged it with my credit card company, and a few days later it was dropped. I still use Hertz. Welcome to the World.

Had a great experience years ago with Avis. Flight into SFO was delayed, so I got out there very late and still had a long drive down to Santa Cruz. Got to Avis and it was a mad house. Staff was very professional, kept explaining to people that the cars were there, they were just short on runners to bring the cars down and they would get everyone done as quickly as possible. While I was at the counter just checking in, this guy came up 3 times yelling at the girl, demanding his car, "I have a reservation" etc, then the last time demanding that Avis pay for a limo to his hotel. Each time the girl was very calm explaining the car was on its way, please be patient. Every time the girl apologized to me, to which I said "No reason, its not your fault". After the last time the guy came up, the girl looked at me, smiled, slid a key to me and said "Spot J29" I put my head down and walked out as fast as I could, toting my golf bag.
Got to spot J29 and discovered a Mustang convertible. Thankfully my clubs fit somehow and I have to admit, driving a convertible down PCH was kind of cool.

I've heard Worthy Rent-A-Car doesn't have the best reservation system
