I've been asked to make some suggestions about who an industry organization that I'm a part of could have as their keynote speaker next May in Chicago. Since the Pack gets around, I thought perhaps that someone here had heard a particularly good keynote speech that would recommend the speaker.

Our organization is in the transportation sector. Previous keynote speakers have been Laura Ingraham, Gov. Scott Walker, Captain Sullenberger of the Miracle on the Hudson fame, Cal Ripken, Jr, Ed Koch, and Frank Luntz.
The fee they are expecting to pay is as much as $ 50,000 (so the Clintons are out).

Any help?

Thanks.

I've heard Dickie V talk before and he is fantastic with a crowd. It was at a Prudential insurance conference... So completely unrelated to what Dickie V knows. He was very inspirational and funny, and he was great with everyone there.

Kyle Maynard

Born on March 24, 1986 with congenital amputation, his parents Scott and Anita supported Kyle and drove him to be as independent as possible, inspiring him to become the person that he is today. Kyle is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter, wrestler, record-setting weightlifter, and the first man to crawl to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Kyle has not let his success be defined by anything or anyone but himself. He has lived his entire life striving to do more. He aims to learn more, push harder, go further—and to inspire others to do the same.

Lou Holtz. I know a lot of you can't stand him as a sports talking head but I've heard him before as a speaker and he was pretty damn good. Lots of good football related stories. The man has been around.

Sitting on front row listening to Holtz would be like going to see Gallagher and sitting on the front row

Recently saw Lt. Gen. Russell Honore' speak on leadership and lessons learned from Katrina. Pretty good and very funny in a salty way.

Wes Moore

The best I have seen -- besides some of the bigger names like Colin Powell, Bill Clinton, etc. -- is Wes Moore, author of The Other Wes Moore (http://theotherwesmoore.com/about-the-book/). He was an incredible speaker with an incredible message.

I've also heard Col. Mark Tillman at MSU Insurance day. He was great and did his best to relate to our industry - even though flying Air Force One on 9-11 and insurance aren't the same thing - he did talk a lot about risk management.

Also General Harold Cross was very good. Karl Rove has been another they had.

Slight hi-jack. Dave Dravecky. Wasn't he the Giant's pitcher whose arm basically exploded on the mound, with both dugouts hearing the bone snap?

Just did a quick search. Yep, that's him. Learned a few other things. SF got him, Kevin Mitchell, & a third in a 6 player trade with SD. I'd say the Giants got the better end of that. Dravecky, Brantley & two others were known as "The God Squad", holding Bible studies on the road in hotel rooms rather than drinking & cavorting with most of the others. Jeff probably didn't care too much for Will the Thrill in those early professional years. Damn, I feel like an uber Giants fan kid again.

ETA: Damn Earthquake ruined The Natural's chance at a ring! Right, General?!

Sorry, back to the previously scheduled program.

Danny Glover was pretty good, heard him speak when I was in 8th grade. He may be too old for that **** these days.

The best I've heard in person was Coach K. I was so pumped by the time he was finished I just knew my short, fat 40+yo *** was capable of getting on the court and slam dunking on the entire NBA simultaneously.

Michael Durant (Blackhawk Down pilot)👍
Cal Ripken, Jr. 👍
Doris Kearns Goodwin 👍 - We've had her twice in the last 15 years and would have her again. Excellent. Everyone loves her no matter your politics plus she's a fantastic story teller and a baseball fan.
Wes Moore 👍
Dickie V. 👎

Erik Weihenmayer-blind guy that has submitted Mt Everest several times. We have several keynotes a year at our national conference and he has always stood out. Been 8-9 years since I've seen him but he's still doing motivational speaking. Great, unique story.

Transportation sector? Check.

Able to get things done and motivate performance even under the most stressful and/or illegal circumstances? Check.

Plenty of free time on his hands after losing a major hobby? Check.

I've found your man.
