We have them all over in our new home in the valley of Pennsylvania. They are small little black jokers. Thankfully, they don't bite, but they are EVERYWHERE. In our kitchen, around our coffee, in the sink (waiting for my father-in-law to wash his hair), in the bathroom, our living room, our bedrooms, etc. No matter where we are, an ant starts crawling on us. We have a small child and a dog, so sadly, we can't do anything too strong, but how do we get rid of these things??

2nd the TERRO baits. Put them out and give it time and before long it will be covered up in ants. They make an outdoor and indoor one and if you can see where they come in get the outdoor ones and put them there. All hardware and groceries carry them

Terro baits work great.

You also might have some luck spraying around the outside of the base of your house and around the windows outside.

2nd this, I use Ortho Home Defense and have never needed any kind of bug spray company to come around. I'll spray it a little heavier/more often if ants come out.

My insect guy used Dominion on the inside and outside of the house. It will kill many different insects and all they have to do is touch each other and they'll die they don't even have to ingest it.

Bifenthrin. Label says 1 oz per gallon. I like to hit the initial spray at 2 to 2.5 oz per gallon and then follow up monthly at the recommended mixture. Spray it in the grass, bushes and edge of the house and entry ways. You might even get rid of the mosquitoes too

This has worked really well for us in the past. May not be what you need if you have ants everywhere and not some problem spots. We put some around some penetrations like drains under cabinets and they disappeared. Pretty sure it's also not something you can leave where the dog can get to it, so may only be good if the access point is through penetrations in cabinets under sinks like ours.

Will also second the ortho home defense. Again, if you're already infested inside, not sure that's the right product unless you can get the dog and child out of the house for a few days. Although that may be one that claims it's pet safe once it's dried?

I use this stuff for interior ants and spiders. It works great and is listed as safe for pets and children. Spray exterior window frames and door jams and no little ladybug looking beetles will come in the house or shop.

I know this won't directly answer your question, but I struggled with those suckers for years. Awful. Whole house could be spotless and if so much as one crumb of food fell on the floor they would suddenly just APPEAR out of nowhere. I didn't have a bug guy at the time - I just sprayed Ortho Home Defense twice a year in and around my house (it worked great for all other insects, but didn't seem to affect the little black ants at all).

So I tried everything Home Depot sold that had the word "ant" on it - baits, poison, inside, outside, around the perimeter of my house, everything - and nothing seemed to get rid of them.

Year before last (for other reasons) I decided to switch to a professional bug guy. The first time the ants showed up back in the spring, I called the bug guy, told him I'd been fighting them for years, asked him if there was anything he could do. He said he thought he could take care of them, and came out the next day. I have no idea what he did, but they are GONE - haven't seen a single one since. So if you've got a professional exterminator and haven't mentioned them to him yet, do it. If you don't have a professional exterminator, might be worth getting one, even if it's temporary. Good luck.
