What future Super Bowl winning QB and future two time All ACC, and five time NBA All Star were basketball teammates in HS here in the great state of North Carolina?

Are you asking for two or three names. OFC

[BuckinElkin!!]

two

[skysdad]

That's a tough one. I do believe the basketball player is an unc player. OFC

[dukedevilz]

It sounds like you might be referencing Brad Daugherty and Brad Johnson from Owen High School. But I'm 99% certain they were never teammates, as Daugherty graduated a good 4-5 year ahead of Johnson.

[BuckinElkin!!]

That's correct, you are up.

You may be correct, I got the Q and A by looking it up though but the info could have been wrong.

Go ahead devilz

[dukedevilz]

Looks like Daugherty graduated in 1982 and Johnson graduated in 1987. So it doesn't appear that they would have been teammates...

Who was the other Head Coach in Coach K's first career NCAA Tournament game?

[dbav]

Bobby Knight

[dukedevilz]

Only one guess. I'll give you a hint. He was the head coach at both Washington and Washington State.

[skysdad]

Bob Bender. OFC

[dukedevilz]

Not Bob Bender. His initials are M.H.

[skysdad]

Marvin Hamlesh. OFC

[HogsOfTheRoad]

Marv Harshman.
This answer is from my father who doesn't have an account, but wants to join in. My fathers question is:
Who is the credited for starting the tradition of cutting down the nets?

[hart2chesson]

Everett Case

[Dad2ze]

Not sure who it is but if you ask my wife she would say someone from Duke. All because I mentioned something that the Duke students from years ago started, now she claims Duke invented everything.

I don't know if we invented it, but we sure as hell perfected it.

[skysdad]

James Naismith. Yes it's true. His team won a championship and on the spur of the moment he took out his pocket knife and cut the bottom out of both peach baskets and gave all the team members a little piece of it. Some one then out of celebration made a shot and discovered that the bottom wasn't really need and it sped up the game. Brilliant huh. OFC

[HogsOfTheRoad]

Sorry for being late, y'all! Everett Case is correct. Hart2Chesson is up.

[hart2chesson]

Duke defeated UNC 47-40 in game 2 between the two old rivals at the close of the '79 regular season. UNC held ball first half and Duke had the infamous 7-0 lead.

Near the end of the game an unusual occurrence. UNC coach Dean Smith had a few words for a Duke player during a stoppage in play.

Name the Duke player, and the circumstances surrounding this incident.

OFC

[skysdad]

I'm thinking the player was Kenny Dennard. Not sure about the incident other than he might have been talking trash to one of the unc players perhaps o'koren or Haley Mills I mean rich yonaker. OFC

Not Kenny, although KD was always in the middle of things.Lol Hayley Mills/Yonaker reference is a hoot Sky. I will give a hint: this Duke player had the ball and UNC was trying DESPERATELY to get the ball, down w/probably less than a minute to play. The UNC player reached over the Duke player trying to fight the ball away from him just a bit too harshly.....

OFC

[QC Dukie]

Jim Spanarkel?

[BuckinElkin!!]

Bob Bender

A UNC player was trying to get the ball from him as the time expired and Bender was snickering at him.

[hart2chesson]

Not Jimmy or Bob....

[hart2chesson]

Hints needed you folks? This Duke player was a sophomore on the '78 team that advanced to the final game.....OFC

[QC Dukie]

Gene Banks?

[dukedevilz]

Mike Gminski was a sophomore in 78. Can't think of anyone else in that class besides Bob...

[hart2chesson]

Banks was freshman on that team
