In the 1978 Duke-Kentucky NCAA Final from St.Louis, NBC actually had 4 individuals covering the telecast....Can you name all 4??? First three shouldnt be too difficult...

OFC

[Anon1728003274]

I'm guessing the three amigos:
Dick Enberg
Al McGuire
Billy Packer

No clue on the fourth.

grooms you are right as rain on the first three! The other was relegated to the role of "host," pretty much a token appearance and was NBC's odd man out since the aforementioned trio had taken a foothold...

[Anon1728003274]

Good question...Actually this broadcaster PREVIOUSLY had a wonderful career....You might even call him an AMERICAN SPORTSMAN!!! (hint)

[dukedevilz]

I know this was before his time at NBC, but it's really hard to imagine a big sporting event on that network without Bob Costas.

[dukedevilz]

Me either, but college basketball hasn't really been a staple with NBC since the 80's. A couple of Notre Dame games in the 90's and a few other random games.

... And wow, I miss the theme music for the NBA on NBC in the 90's. That was the absolute best.

[Anon1728003274]

This mystery man was associated primarily w/NBC Baseball...

Curt Gowdy. OFC

[Anon1728003274]

Good job Sky! Curt Gowdy who partnered w/Tony Kubek on NBC's Baseball GOTW, and the old AFL Football did college hoops on NBC IN 70s too until the trio became entrenched! His "host" role on the '78 finals was basically NBC showing him the door...Sky's up!

OFC

[skysdad]

sgrooms got 3 of them. I never would have said Gowdy without American Sportsman. I say good ahead sgrooms. OFC

Not sure if you're giving me credit for the question or not, but I'll defer to Jim. I have a lot of work I need to do these next couple of days. Please lecture me if I start posting on here too much

[jimlsumner]

Lots of Olympic talk in the air.

Name the former Duke men's basketball player who represented France in the Olympics.

[dukedevilz]

Crawford Palmer

[jimlsumner]

Correct.

If you don't know the backstory, he played Euro ball in France, married a French woman and became a naturalized French citizen.

[dukedevilz]

If you include the 2016 projected lineups for Olympic Basketball, Coach K would have coached 11 former Duke players that also played in the Olympics. Can you name 8 of those 11?

[dbav]

Laettner
Boozer
Irving
Deng

That's all I can think of at the moment.

[dbav]

Pocius also.

[dukedevilz]

Those 6 are all correct. None of the remaining 5 players suited up for Team USA in the Olympics. One of the guys still in question is projected to play for a country that has already qualified for the 2016 Games.

[jimlsumner]

Dan Meagher and Greg Newton played for Canada.

[dukedevilz]

Check and Check. 3 left. Of the three remaining guys, two of them previously played in the Olympics and the other should be playing this summer.

[dukedevilz]

Haha, nope. That's one of three. 2 more to go. At this point, Dbav won't be passed as he got 5 correct. So feel free to guess a little more - or dbav, if you feel so inclined, fire away!

[jimlsumner]

You're not counting Cameron Hall, are you? He played for Foster.

[dbav]

Sweet mother of God, I get to ask a question. It only took 28 pages for me to get there, haha.

Softball for baseball fans (Sky), in 1927, who led Major League Baseball in RBI?

As a bonus, but not required, how many did he have? The number always shocks me.

[DiehardDukeFan4Life]

This is a total stab in the dark guess but I'm gonna say Babe Ruth, as for how many RBI's, I have no idea

[dbav]

Ruth is incorrect.

[dukedevilz]

You're not counting Cameron Hall, are you? He played for Foster.

Nope. The missing two are Eric Boateng with the United Kingdom in 2012 and Mike Gbinije, who is slated to suit up for Nigeria in 2016.

There's been a lot of Duke guys in recent years with a Nigerian heritage. A nice starting lineup would be: Gbinije, Sulaimon, Ojeleye, Obi, and Okafor

[skysdad]

Ruth is incorrect.

Babe Ruth could do it. OFC

[dukedevilz]

Hack Wilson - 196. I'm 50-60% confident on this. I feel like 196 is right, but not sure if Hack Wilson is the guy or not.

[dukedevilz]

Jimmie Fox would be my next guess

[skysdad]

I over looked this one. Lou Gehrig. OFC.

[dbav]

I over looked this one. Lou Gehrig. OFC.

Gehrig is correct. My 3rd favorite Yankee. He had 173 rbi in 1927.

Interesting note, many don't realize he also hit 47 home runs that year, meaning of that 922 hit in all of baseball, he and Ruth accounted for 107 of them (12%).

Sky is up.

[skysdad]

Gary Cuozzo was Johnny Unitas" back up for many years. He had a unique off season job. What was it? I will be out all day so when someone gets the answer correct it will be tonight before I can confirm. OFC
