OT: Annual Tiger Woods Comeback Thread

Only one person in this thread fell for a sucker bet and that was giving an unlimited time frame for the world's greatest golfer to hone his game and win a major.

Tiger is going back and forth between weaknesses and strengths. In the end, it will come down to determination from the anger at letting all of these opportunities pass him by. It's building but don't think we're there yet.

I have Carnoustie circled on the calendar. If I was Cali, I'd get that check book ready in mid July. If not, then there's one more after that, four more next year, four more the next....etc.

As expected, several guys played pretty well in front of Tiger, today, with DeChambeau (66) at -14, and Cantlay (66), Stanley (70), and Niemann (70) at -13, so Tiger's still 5 strokes back and could've been 3 strokes back if he didn't 3-putt 2 of the last 3. However, instead of being tied for 24th, he's now tied for 7th at -9, so he has a lot less players to climb over to try to win. I certainly wouldn't bet on it, but if he can play as well, tee to green, and make some more putts, he's capable of a 63, which might do it. But it would've been and still is a bad bet, straight up.

Why don't you keep you arguements here. Im sure Cali and you can argue crap for hours.

Seriously, though, his bet is looking better for him. Tiger used to be the king of hitting it like a 78 and shooting 72. Now he's hitting it like a 72 and turning it into a 78. Stunning mental lapses and zero grind, right now. Then, no temper at the pressers after, no fire.

The physical strength is there, the determination is not. He either starts getting really angry at the crappy scores he's shooting relative to how he's hitting it, or he won't win much of anything. He needs to find his grind. It's in there somewhere unless the prescription drugs hallowed him out. Strange to watch the guy make a triple, with a good lie, behind a giant green in two, at the 1st hole of the US Open. WTF?

Needs to play more. Cant play the old tiger schedule and expect to be great. He admitttedly needs reps. Those need to be tournament reps and not reps with Rickie at Medalist.

As I said earlier in the thread, consistency just goes as you get older.

Wanting to do better has nothing to do with it, working has nothing to do with it. He's old and he's been hurt and his body will simply no longer consistently execute what he tells it to do.

That said, if he gets lucky, he could have a week where it does all work for some reason and win.

Kind of harsh for a guy that just came back from major back surgery. Give him a season before you make that judgment. IMHO, he fell in love with his swing and length but neglected his putting in the recent months. He started the year putting very well. He’ll figure it out.

Got through? He got through half the tournament.

Everything I’ve stated is coming to fruition. What he used to do better than anyone, now 50 guys do. All younger and healthier. Seeing him next to DJ was a perfect illustration. Tiger is no where near what he is doing now. You lose touch as you get older. We are seeing that with his short game. He doesn’t drive the ball at an elite level, whereas he used to be the elite guy.

Father Time, it gets everyone. It’s grabbing Tiger now. Short game and consistency are the first things you notice when it happens. And that’s exactly what we have seen.

Just too many younger, better players now. He really should enter some smaller tournament without the big boys, maybe get a win under his belt to give his fans something to get excited about.

They should change it as much as they should change US Open setups. The USGA embarrassed again. Didn't burn the place out but created the least entertaining US Open since they ruined this place in 2004. They have overnight to make it better but not great.

Will say the Hamptons are tough in terms of weather. That same golf course was gettable hours earlier, with a pair of 66's carded. But then the wind comes in and sucks the moisture out of the greens and the afternoon plays like a whole other beast even though the course itself wasn't touched. So, in order to make the afternoon fair, the morning would have been way easier than it was. Tough to get it right with that many guys to move across 18 holes.

You can make that course really hard with the same tee to green setup and really slow greens. Instead they let the masochist set it up every day. Another complete embarrassing USGA fucing with a great Open venue.

In a year when they return to their biggest disaster they compound it by making this worse. This is more like a putt putt course with a windmill on every hole. I qualified and played in the National Pub Links at Hominey Hills in Colts Neck, a great track destroyed by overzealous USGA. There are a million ways to make a course reall hard, this is the worst. Mike Davis promised this wouldn't happpen this year. He needs to be fired Monday morning.
