Anyway, that would be the dumbest bet ever to bet on a guy who is (or was) many strokes back, straight up, vs. the field. Maybe if you give me 20:1 odds I'll think about it. Even at his current 1 stroke back it's a dumb bet straight up vs. the field, especially when someone in front of him is likely to also go low today.

As expected, several guys played pretty well in front of Tiger, today, with DeChambeau (66) at -14, and Cantlay (66), Stanley (70), and Niemann (70) at -13, so Tiger's still 5 strokes back and could've been 3 strokes back if he didn't 3-putt 2 of the last 3. However, instead of being tied for 24th, he's now tied for 7th at -9, so he has a lot less players to climb over to try to win. I certainly wouldn't bet on it, but if he can play as well, tee to green, and make some more putts, he's capable of a 63, which might do it. But it would've been and still is a bad bet, straight up.

Back in January I talked about the next "Tiger". Joaquin Niemann is just 19 years old and is just 1 shot back right now with 2 holes to go. This is a player you should all start watching.
Edit. Birdies his last now tied for the lied.

Niemann is most impressive for a 19 year old. He could be a superstar in the making.

So you just think he might win. But you don’t really believe it. That is all you had to say at the start.

Late last year people started talking about him quickly climbing the World Amateur rankings. So I started following his story. Come late January a win in the Latin American Amateur Championship would put him at #1 in the world. Shoots 63 and smokes the field. First #1 from South America. Was going to turn pro after that tournament but since he won he got the invite for the Masters. Turned pro after Masters. He is playing like a pro. A star in the making. Will be rooting for him tomorrow.
Great birdie on 18 today!

Due to weather issues in Ohio tomorrow, the field will play in threesomes starting at 7:30AM. Leaders will tee off at 9:30AM.

https://golfweek.com/2018/06/02/tee-times-pairings-tv-info-2018-memorial-tournament-final-round/

Thanks for the heads up - don't recall them saying that in the telecast today. Unless they're looking at models/forecasts I'm not (private forecasters are out there), I don't quite understand this decision. The worst of the storms is likely to be between about 9 am and 1 pm.

I get teeing off of both nines in threesomes, but why not start that at 12 pm, with the leaders teeing off at 2 pm, which is about normal and would allow about a 7 pm finish. Maybe they're assuming there will be significant delays and they'll end up with the leaders still finishing up in the 3-6 pm window.

Of course I didn't think he was going to win, from 6 strokes behind and with 20+ guys in front of him. That's always a bad bet for one guy vs. the field ahead of him. I said that multiple times. And it's still a bad bet on him vs. 6 guys in front of him (and a bunch close to him) - but he is capable of doing it - I'd guess it's about a 25 to 1 shot. You don't read so well.

Chase - do you have an out in your bet if Tiger has to quit for good due to injury? If not, I have to say, I don't think it's a good bet. Also, does your "major" bet include senior majors (20 years implies it does)? That's not nearly as bad of a bet, but I still worry about Tiger reinjuring himself seriously and then quitting the game.
Cali doesn't know ANYTHING about golf. He plays to like a 23 handicap and comes on here with all of these opinions about Tiger Woods, it's comical.

Only one player since Nicklaus has been able to consistently fine tune all seven aspects of the game, tee ball, high irons, mid irons, low irons, short game and putter in a way that put him miles ahead of everyone else playing. That same guy is going through that process, right now. His back is fused. That surgery doesn't break apart. If it wasn't going to work, we'd know it by now. It worked and he's good to go until a knee or something else breaks down. He's going to win a major this year and Cali will be paying up long before the body breaks down. tiger's game is getting really, really close to being air tight. Wouldn't mind seeing him lose this week and spend teh next week working on his putter going into Shinnecock. Have my tickets...can't wait.

Agree with all of this, except your confidence in his back remaining healthy - without being a medical expert and knowing his medical history, and considering the incredible forces Tiger exerts on his back, I don't think you can be that confident. But if he does stay healthy, congrats on taking Gump's money.

Oh, I read fine. Your just scared to put your money where your mouth is.

Check your punctuation again, Gimp. You need to go back to grade school.

Scared, lol. Pretty sure I gamble larger sums than you do, regularly, but I don't make dumb bets.

Also, my punctuation is fine in that post, but you had another big miss. RU848789 1 - Gump 0. As expected.

“Bet larger sums of money than you”...lol. Really, who says that?

Cali = Globetrotters
RU numbers guy = Washington Generals

I’ll give you this though. Your Tiger prediction has been 100% wrong. It’s still more accurate than your weather predictions.

Radar shows showers are just about over for the day - still not sure why they moved the tee times...
In hindsight, really bad decision to move the tee times. The worst that was going to happen was a delay of an hour or so, given the forecast (was always going to be a fairly short-lived line of showers moving through), so they could've just kept the tee times and risked finishing at 7 pm instead of 6 pm. Plus, they still had another 90 minutes beyond that to play, if they absolutely had to (sunset is at 8:56 pm today in Columbus). Unless they felt it was untenable to delay 60 Minutes. Killed the drama of the final round.

After 2 rounds, I predicted Tiger wouldn't win this tournament and he didn't - which is why I didn't bet, despite your childish attempts to goad me into it.

And the jury's out on where Tiger ends up this year, but you're already wrong on saying he wouldn't be competitive and won't contend, which he's done multiple times, now.

Oh yeah, I also got the weather right today, questioning why they teed off early - turns out they didn't need to. What did you get right? Nada. Gump gonna Gump.

Yeah, that was surprising. If Tiger putted anywhere near as well as he used to, he wins this thing.

The word “if” is a great conversation opener.

Because anything said after that means nothing.

But I’d agree that Tiger is now close to winning.

T23. Can’t putt, as I said would be the first thing to go. GimpWimp won’t bet. Cause he knows. Not contending, not winning. You said he’d be top 5 and winning events. Neither are happening. Just as I predicted. You’re dull. Just not dull enough to put your money where your mouth is. I’ll give you that much, GimpWimp. Run on sentence, too.

I said he'd eventually be top 5. He's only played 9 tournaments, which is just a start, although he does have two top 5 finishes, so he's not far off.

No run on sentence, Gump. I doubt you even know what one is.

RU#'s is right on the money with this. We all said eventually. He is getting better and better. His putting was outstanding at the start of this comeback. Now it has slipped a little. Last step is to put it all together. But as #'s has said Cali you are already wrong. He is competing and challenging the best in the world already which you said he would never do again.

Lol, now you are going based on future projections. Your argument gets worse with every Tiger finish.

But let’s bet! $250 he doesn’t finish top 3.

No, since you think he won't be competitive again, how about $250 he finishes in the top 50? Mid tier golfer.

I have no dog in this fight, but to make a straight-up bet on anyone finishing Top 3 in any major tourney is a sucker bet. RU Numbers is right to decline.

Even money on a Top 20 finish seems more equitable to me.

Cali and #s are doing what they do best. Ugh

Anyway, word out of Shinacock is that its in spectacular condition and will play real tough. Phil said it's one of the best Open setups ever.

Only one person in this thread fell for a sucker bet and that was giving an unlimited time frame for the world's greatest golfer to hone his game and win a major.

Tiger is going back and forth between weaknesses and strengths. In the end, it will come down to determination from the anger at letting all of these opportunities pass him by. It's building but don't think we're there yet.

I have Carnoustie circled on the calendar. If I was Cali, I'd get that check book ready in mid July. If not, then there's one more after that, four more next year, four more the next....etc.
