Fighting the swing. Not settled, nothing smooth...feeling the nerves, it looks like. Short game looks real good. If he was struggling with that, he'd be five over. Instead, one over through eight. Maybe he finds something on the back...
He is older. Less skilled. Probably coming to the realization that he is happy to be out there, but knows he can't truly be competitive or close to what he once was.
If he can make some cuts in majors, compete here and there for a day or two, he's reached his Everest in my opinion. Maybe even win a small tourney if he is willing to bite the bullet.
Or join the Senior tour at first chance and get on with trying to best the old cats.

Tiger is very long off the tee and can make the shots.
Very promising today but won’t bet on his future.

I will give you he was extremely happy as he felt good after a bad round. He looks like he enjoyed a round for the first time in years. He has a long way to go to become competitive but for the first time in years he can actually build on something. He will never be Tiger of old but hopefully he can put in a full year. But no that was not a solid round.
Solid for where he is. The last thing I am worried about is his ball striking which is what gave him trouble today. He drove it fairly well for him. If his chipping game is solid which it was today I have no doubt that he will win again. It's only a matter of time before the rest of his game rounds into form.
I don't know if he will again but I truly believe he is very excited about how he feels and where his game is right now. More important it seems like he has some patience to work through it. And this round was a solid base to work off of.
Didn't like the look of the swing on the front nine....very tentative, no trust, no confidence. He made a number of really good swings at the end of his round so, it's in there.
If i hit the ball like that, I shoot 80. He somehow managed to shoot par with so many missed fairways and botched approach shots. Wasn't as sharp as I thought he'd be. All in all, not bad. We know he can shoot par with his b game. Here's to hoping the "a" game shows us today.

Whether he makes the cut or not, it looks like when he shakes off the rust after a few more tourneys that he still has the skills to compete on the tour.

Pump the breaks! Glad he made the cut but he has a long way to go. No chance to win a major. Not qualified for the WGC events. Needs multiple wins to make the Rider Cup.

Love your enthusiasm for Tiger, as blind as it maybe. I was the same for Jack in his late years. Was rewarded when he won the 86 Masters. If Tiger ever wins another tournament it will be at Augusta also but not this year. Has zero chance to win the Open again.
If you are a regular at Rutgers game I'd like to propose a friendly wager. Beers or cigars (or both) if Tiger wins a full field event before Rutgers first home game. Full disclosure I would love to lose this bet but don't see it happening.

If he can sustain good health for a year or more, allowing him to practice hard and play a good amount of rounds, there's simply no reason why he wouldn't be able to get back into the top 5 in golf. At his age (42), I don't ever think he'll ever dominate golf again, but he can certainly win multiple tournaments again and can even win a few more majors - he was still #1 in golf less than 4 years ago.
But I have no idea if he can maintain that level of physical health. Not sure if anyone does, which is why I would never take a bet for or against him right now. For now, it's just about the process of getting back into playing shape and tournament shape. If he can be moderately competitive the next few months and even get back into contention at a few tournaments, you know he'll then have a shot at Augusta, where he came close in 2015 despite not playing much and hurting his wrist in the last round.

Garcia hasnt has multiple back surgeries, knee surgeries and missed 3 years on the Tour. Plus Sergio has been playing at a high level.
I did qualify the health factor. Point about Garcia winning is that today’s field isn’t as great as everyone makes it out to be.
This should not be a surprise to anyone. One of the greatest golfers ever proves to be human, demons and all. Of course there's intrigue. Kind of like watching "where are they now" in real time. But there will always be someone who says, "he's TEN shots back, why are we talking about him"?

Because he is Tiger Woods. The same reason he has fans lining the fairways 3 hours before he tees off. He’s a living legend that’s back to trying to compete and win. A compelling story. And the story will unwind before our very eyes. One way, or another.
No different than Jack before him, Arnold before him, Ben Hogan...
They are still fan favorites well beyond their winning seasons. People will always have hope that an 86 Masters might pop up.
