Now that's a tough job. No recruiting area, little fan support and and outsider in your own conference.

Good school, tough spot to do much more than what they've been doing (IMO).

Wow- I know there were rumors but I am still surprised. He ran a clean program with mild success on the field. Really thought the academics and program culture would allow him to survive. Must have really seen the writing in the wall floating his name.

BC trying to make a last minute run at Schiano...?
No. BC had their chance at Schiano. Could have offered him many times. Addazio been dead in the water for weeks. FSU was last straw, not ND. Schiano wanted to coach Rutgers.

Always hated how many of the players from the north Jersey parochial schools went to BC.
I'm sure there was pressure from teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators.I had that and wasn't a D1 athlete. Kids at parochial k-8 are encouraged/pushed/shamed into continuing
at Catholic High schools and kids at parochial high schools have the same when choosing college.
With the north Jersey parochial high schools having such strong football programs (yeah, tell me they don't recruit, haha) too much NJ talent gets pushed toward N.D. and BC

I disagree that kids in the Catholic HS are encouraged/pushed to attend Catholic colleges. I mean there’s only 2 of them (ND and BC). The fact is that if you’re a Catholic boy growing up in the NE you dream of playing at ND and BC. It’s just the way it is.

BC was waiting to see if Hobbs was stupid enough to pay for Addazio’s buyout.

And that would have been a perfectly Rutgers things to do

Interesting how with all the hand wringing about Schiano potentially coming back and how we could do better, none of the other named HC options were any better and they had no experience at Rutgers.

Addazio - Fired
Moorehead - On the hot seat (saved his job with egg bowl win?)
Jones - Fired

Were there any HC candidates in good standing that were named as options?

Nope. He's not going to get any P5 offers. He's never sniffed one and never been close to being head coach before.
That's how it works though. If you're a highly thought of assistant you don't get a P5 offer right up until you have a few different options.

I am Catholic and never rooted for either school.

Moorehead already out, no?
