I promised I would share a few things once I had time to reflect. I'm still in disbelief. RIP buddy.

I first met Pickle at the Veranda back in 2004....and I think I saw him everyday until my last days in the golden triangle, which were somewhere in 2007. I couldn't get away from him if I tried. He is one of the founders of the brand, Lettuce.....as is Dawg61's crazy ***. Us three played many a round of golf together...whether it was with the Willcutt's at the CC or at the Highlands, where I lived and had the keys to the kingdom. Chances are, if you lived in the highlands between 2004-2007, you witnessed a black Toyota Tacoma riding the cart trails at night. I was an Idiot and I loved my co-pilot.

It became a regular thing on Sundays......Get hammered at the highland clubhouse, around halftime of the Sunday night game, take my truck down to the house, via #18 cartpath.....grab clubs and head back up to the hill for the late night driving range. He loved swinging the sticks and by god, he could hold his own. Pickle had such an honorary way about him....in a good way. He loved what he loved and he loved it to death.

It was a Sunday morning if I remember correctly. Early Early Early, like 5am. I remember it being cool, either Feb or March....but whatever. For some reason I was not up...when the phone rang....."Hello".........long pause.....followed by what sounded like an old Metallica song on in the background... likely 99.1.....all of a sudden....."LATTUCE" "I NEED YOUR HALP"......
I'm here to tell ya, if Pickle called you and said he needed help, chances are, he is in a super bind. As we all know, Pickle was THE bailsbondsman. So my initial thoughts weren't what most would expect.....Hell, I figured a winch might be involved. What I had forgot about was that Pickle was in charge of the big Crawfish Boil up at the Highlands.....which was supposed to happen around lunch.

"LATTUCE, do you know where I can FINd a GoosNAck trailer"? It was early and I started to process what was going on.... "I mean, I GOT TO GOs and pick These CRawdads UP and I Have No GooSNack Traler"........................"Pickle, brother, its 5:30am and I don't even have a trailer ball" "Im fresh out of GOoSNACk trailers" .........."AH HEll", he said "I'm on my way"...................I gulped, went and took a **** and thought "I hope to god he is drunk and passes out before he realizes he called me.

What I didnt know was that he was already in the neighborhood.......with a bead on my house........KNOCK KNOCK BOOM BOOM ...Door to my house opens......up the stairs he comes.....bathroom door flys open......"LATTUCE, WHATS YOU DOING"..........................."I'm dreaming, you"?........

I'll never forget that day......It was an utter disaster, the crawfish were terrible, people were getting sick..........I think 3 entire sacks were boiled without 1 live crayfish breathing.........but the music was great, the beer was cold and everyone I loved was hanging out there. We never frowned, never complained and all showed a gratitude toward Pickle and the others that threw the party. We were all a pretty tight group.....Most in and out of the service industry. Pickle loved his people and we loved Pickle. Share if you attended that party. One of the greatest days I can remember at State.....and it was all to do because of Pickle.

Great story.

Pickle and I became friends during my running days between marriages (which was almost 10 years). Anyway, he was funny and fun to hang with. One of my favorite memories was catching up with him at some bar/dance place in Columbus around 95 or 96 when I was going back to school at MSU. We pulled up a table together and just drank and told lies for a couple of hours.

Fast forward a couple of years, I remarried in 97 to a gal who grew up in Starkville. We ran into him and I'll be damned if they didn't grow up in the same neighborhood! Seems my wife and her brother hung around with each other while they were growing up and her brother was really good friends with him. Later on my daughter went to MSU and worked the Dooey, sometimes tending bar at the the hut behind the place and sure enough, Pickle was security.

Small world for such a big ol' boy. Gonna miss drinking and chatting with that guy.

When I would go visit after 2007 and up until my last time in Vegas, he was among top priority. If I missed him at Sammy W LFL spot, I'd for sure see him with his boys at the V. I bounced into town the Thurs night Cam beat us at the buzzer and was able to spend a lot of time with him. Watched the LSU series with him in LFL 3/4 years ago. Sadly, thats the last time we spoke.

I feel like I should and probably would recognize this guy. Can you share a pic?

Or give more details as to who he was?

Picture Jim McElwain but much bigger, 6'4 280lbs, with reflective Oakley's on. If you went to a bar worth a **** between 2000-2006 in Starkville you for sure saw "Pickle".

Pickle was just a good dude looking for a good time. He liked to laugh, drink, eat, watch sports and play horrible golf every day. He was the biggest dude in the room and the most simplest kindest person in the room at the same time. Love ya Pickle rest easy 1/2 jaeger.

2000? Earlier than that. I remember seeing him in the Parrot way before then. Always a super nice dude.

Pickle. Gerald and Shakes (Bar Tender) were the staples the nightlife scene in Starkville from my time in school from 1997-2001. Sadly I know that 2 of those individuals are no longer with us.

Lol alright if you went to a bar worth a **** between 1990-2006 you definitely saw "Pickle"

Your still off by about a decade. 1980ish would be more accurate. I think Pickle would have been 18 in 1981. The drinking age was 18. It was pretty easy to get in the bars at 16-17.

Alright last correction since this timeline is so important, if you went to a bar in Starkville, not even a good bar just any ****** bar including that disaster know as "Cheers", between 1979-2010 you most definitely saw "Pickle".

There weren't any bars in Starkvegas when we were 16-17. The Landing and Len Lews were it. Or, we would go to Echols or Johns and buy beer when starting at 15 YO

So what happened to Pickle? I could have sworn I saw him in the Scoreboard Club the day he died. Never heard what happened though.

If you thought that The 45 was a culture shock, I guess you never went to the Slab House or the First And Last? Back in the day, my Columbus saturday nights started at Bonnie and Clydes/ Classix until it closed. Then to The Club until it closed and then stop by the 45 on the way home for one more. Gives me a headache just thinking about it.

I had no idea where I was going and was expecting ladies night at The Club. I felt like I needed my name on a barstool at Club 45 to fit in. My crew and I stayed a while and shot pool until we felt like we had won too many. They found someone dead in the ditch out front of Club 45 about 2 weeks after. I eventually found The Club and generally went there to get shot down by girls while standing in an inch of beer. I may have returned to 45 once or twice to shoot pool.

Seems like there was a bar by the old Wal-Mart when I started at State in 1979. Couldn't even guess the name of it it has been so long ago.

You shut your ***** mouth. Cheers was the **** in the late 90's early 2000's. Dollar you call it, Jerry, Snap, Dawn, and the lovely and talented Renee. Top off the night with a Hadad Heartstopper next door. That's L-I-V-I-N brother.

He may have been...I'm pretty sure he was down at my friends tailgate. He text me that next day saying he had died.

Edit - he also said Pickle had been experiencing some health problems, though he wasn't sure exactly what.

That wasn't beer you were standing in, well it probably was beer a few hours before you were standing in it but had been recycled.

Pickle was definitely at THE Club in the early to mid 90s. I was there too...along with half of the MSU football team. Good times.

Renee? Did she also go by Tinkerbell? Serving up test tube shooters all night in the pool table room.
