Looks like the PGA staying the course outlasted Saudi Arabia's willingness to lose money on it's golf investment until it brought the PGA to it's knees and to the merger table or became equal to it in the eyes of those who follow the PGA tour .
Betting big bucks the LIV would eventualy be the PGA's equal and bring in the type of profit the PGA does.

Two things the LIV accomplished : makeing some of the players rich before even playing a round as a LIV Tour member and make the PGA pay it's members much better so they'd stay.

But the biggest winner in my opinion was Greg Norman, the LIV made him viable again to the Golf public.
Instead of being just a legendary retired golfer he became the face of the LIV in their fight for golf fans with the PGA.
Once forgotten, Norman became famous again

A few posters will be disappointed with this decision. I don’t think Greg Norman won anything. What is he viable for? He is the face of LIV. I don’t think it’s a positive.

And unlike when he was a player, he is universally disliked.

A few of the players made the money reported. The top guys. Every one else? Cut it in half. For some of those young guys and journeymen like Ian Poulter, it was probably a wash at best. Their commercial value went down to near nothing.

I'm sure Norman parachuted out with a nice windfall. Going to be interesting to see if some of those guys are willing to do and pay to get back on tour. One thing is for certain- the PGA isn't going to make it easy or inexpensive, particularly for the guys that sued the PGA.

I'm just glad this stupid version of golf is dying.

Reed and Brooks got out just in time. Rahm is holding out for a better deal but just lost any leverage he has. I assume the older guys will go DP or Champions. Two interesting players are DJ and Cam Smith.

At 42 is DJ going to want to sit a year and pay the reentry fee?

I could see many of the Euros applying for the DP Tour. IMO, Dechambeau and Rahm are the ones who have power. Next level would be Bubba Watson and Cam Smith. Few will care where the likes Taylor Gooch, Anthony Kim, Thomas Detry, Harold Varner, and Matthew Wolff play..

I guarantee you he parachuted out of that deal with millions. He definitely won.

DJ doesn't care at this point. He made his money. Golf is far down the list of priorities.

The DP and Champions Tour are affiliated with the PGA. If those players want to play on those tours, the PGA isn't going to make it easy. The window was Brooks/Reed. IT's going to be even harder for the guys that didn't jump through it then, and that is for the very top guys. The also rans and never were? Hi Korn Ferry.

They are got their bag of money. But his legacy is **** now. Now he is known to be a choker and a sellout. Not what I call winning.
He was that hostile career. He has been trying tooth since the 80s. Not sure how he’s a sellout. He simply thought he had a better business idea. He don’t, but he made a lot of money trying. No different than any other business venture.

I think that might have been his intention but he sold out by teaming up with the Saudi’s on LIV. Outside of money, LIV didn’t do any disruption. That’s my opinion. I do believe I’m with the majority of golf fans.

I'm gonna guess they'd make some kind of deal with Bryson. He's probably the most popular golfer in the world with all his YouTube and other stuff. Not so sure Rahm. I think he'd have to do the same as Reed. The rest? Few care.

Outside of money? That’s all it’s all about. Half these guys would be in finance if it wasn’t for these purses.

They would be in sales. He wasn’t getting everyone paid. He was making the rich richer. Most of those rich guys are chasing legacy, not money.

I think you’d be surprised. As Serena Williams said to me when I was at her house and asked to see her trophy case, “I play for money honey not trophies”.

LPGA is in Jersey this week. Played Mt Ridge a few times. Great course and a real test. Probably #2 after Hollywood for predominantly Jewish clubs in NJ

And the Shop Rite at Seaview in Galloway at the end of the month.

Played the Seaview Bay course twice. Neither was one for the time capsule.

Back to Tour.

Gotterup didn't play very well in this weekend's 1st to 2 Rounds at Quail Hollow, standing +1 and tied for 43rd.

Today he was on fire. He played to front nine 6 Under with Birdies on 2, 3, and four in a row on 6-9 for a 29. Then the ol wilds came back. He scrambled for a Par on the Par 5 10th, Bogeyed 11, and Pared 12-17. He had 1 possible shot for Birdie buy missed a 9 footer otherwise, hasn't given himself a chance.

Playing 18 where he just hit the Fairway with a 344 yd Drive, he currently sits T15, a 28 place improvement but most are still on the course.

Edit: He sank a 29' for a Birdie on 18 to shoot 65. It was his 2nd putt of more than 28' today. He currently stands T11.

So the 2nd Major of the year, the PGA Championship, is this week at the 7,394yd, Par 70 Aronimink GC outside Philadelphia. Slopes on greens are supposed to be brutal and loads of traps lining fairways.

You played it Arnie? Nice.

I don't imagine the Greens were as fast as they'll be this week and sure they'll have some diabolical pin placements. Did you find them as tough as they're advertised?
Yea nice spot. Fast greens are relative. My club they are almost always running at 12-13. For tournaments they go over 14. We consistently play majors level greens.

We are hosting the Curtis Cup next month. They asked us to slow our greens down as the USGA did when we hosted the women’s AM. “Women don’t play greens this fast” we were told.
