Thought there could be a reunion with Gattis and Locksley since they were both at Alabama. I’m guessing he’ll be calling the plays even though he’ll be sharing co-OC title with Sumlin.

Kingsbury as USC QB coach instead of finding an OC position?
My guess:
The Cardinals might have been pushing him to get a job because of a clause or two in his AZ Card contract that stares he's expected to try and find employment after termination, so what he earns can be deducted from what the Cards owe him.
And that's why taking a QB coach position that might not have recruiting obligations( it's been rumored he doesn't like the recruiting aspect of college coaching)
If hired somewhere as an OC that job probably would include recruiting players ( HS/Portal) which he doesn't want to do .

I believe he was offered the USC OC position awhile back ago and turned it down.
Might have been because of being expected to be hot and heavy into Trojan recruitment of offensive talent that turned him off from the job

Yea, he doesn’t like recruiting but I don’t think that’s unusual. Many coaches don’t like it.

He didn’t turn down the USC coaching position under Helton. He accepted it and was there for a few weeks as OC but then Arizona came along and he left.

This is ideal for him because he can work with qbs which he’s good at like Leach was and Riley is but doesn’t have to deal with the off the field stuff or recruiting.

I read comments that he didn’t want to come back to college because of the other stuff outside of coaching but I suppose this is a half step back. I wonder if it’ll lead to more in the future. I still think he could be a good college HC if he could find a good complimentary DC. He cranks out qbs and his offenses were generally good but his defenses were bad.
