IDK about that one, he was treading water, but not doing terribly? Mostly winning seasons, and 8-5/4-4 last year. This year two losses by 4 points or less.

WMU had some pretty strong offenses prior to 2022. They have had a revolving door at OC, and not sure who was calling the plays there.

2017Western Michigan6–64–44th (West)
2018Western Michigan7–65–3T–2nd (West)L Famous Idaho Potato
2019Western Michigan7–65–32nd (West)L First Responder
2020Western Michigan4–24–2T–2nd (West)
2021Western Michigan8–54–4T–4th (West)W Quick Lane
2022Western Michigan5–74–43rd (West)

Well so much for 4 straight below .500 regular seasons, all it took for WMU was 1 straight haha.

Stupid is as stupid does. They just extended him last year.

Tim Lester played QB at WMU, and in the XFL and Arena Football league. He was OC at Syracuse under Shafer in 2014-15 and QB coach at Purdue in 2016. Maybe an OC candidate?

A bit on his offenses:

Apparently there's a little buzz around Auburn having interest in James Franklin. No clue if it's legitimate.

Maybe USF has as well, that’s the other name to which he’s been connected

From the article:

Yeah, definitely, the report is true,” Sanders said. “They’re not the only ones. The report is true. I’m not going to sit here and tell all my business, but they’re not the only ones.

“I would be a liar if I told you (Colorado officials) didn’t [offer Sanders the job]. You know they did, I know they did, everybody there knows they did. It is what it is. That’s not my focus right now

Siting P5 coach Matt Campbell even mentioned for Cincy

Remember the Louisville locker room sign that had tips like "No guns" or something like that?

The Auburn sign:
1. No hookers
2. No lap dances.
3. No escort services. . . .
All 3 will be allowed if Auburn returns to prominence.
Liberty didn't mind and Hell didn't Freeze over , it just claimed redemption in the name of winning.
The 3 sins listed above were minor flaws in today's sports culture ( any program)
compared to the character assassination .Mississippi and Freeze tried to use against the former HC Houston Nutt that led to Nutt's lawyer gathering the information that led to
Freeze's disgrace and briefly being considered undesirable until Liberty decided he was good enough for them

You have to love the SEC. Auburn tried to fire it last coach due to an unproven rumor of marital infidelity to hire a coach with a proven case of marital infidelity which was one of the reasons he was fired from his last SEC job.

In fairness, Freeze did his penance at Liberty University (a Christian University), founded by Jerry Falwell, Sr., whose former President, Jerry Falwell, Jr., were involved in a number of sex scandals. All sins are forgiven.

More on GT and it does sound like Fritz and whomever wanted more. For a change, a school exercising some financial sensibility. All hires are crapshoots, no need throw in so many guarantees to results that aren't guaranteed. Whether Key works or not, who knows but you can say that about any one they would have hired. Good for GT.

From the article:

Tech interviewed 10 to 12 candidates, according to sources, a group that included Tulane coach Willie Fritz. Tech struggled lure a big outside name because of the school's reluctance to guarantee large portions of the contract, as the amount of guaranteed money was a non-starter for some candidates.

Sounds like the deal with Willie went on the fritz?

Willie may have been all wet in his leveraging power--does that mean he gave them a Wet Willie?

I'll be here all night. How's the prime rib?
