Mets allowing the Phillies to hire Girardi today, given that it was long signaled that the Phillies might do so today, indicates that the Mets didn't want him. Do with that what you want.

They probably didn't want to pay him. He will likely get near what Maddon is getting from the Angels or the same. I think analytics nerds de-value the manager's position these days thinking they are the smartest guys in the room.
