I find it interesting that after wins,this thread becomes relatively quiet. Only after losses is there much activity. If Brewers win (currently up 2 runs in top of 14th), I believe we're 1 1/2 games out of final wild card though Brewers; Phillies still ahead of us with Cubs currently in last wild card spot.
Sunday's game vs Royals is critical that we win and thus go 3-3 on road trip with very rough stretch of games ahead of us until mid September. We must take 2 of 3 from Royals. Believe Wheeler will rebound from rough start vs Braves to pitch a solid game tomorrow. Hopefully bats come alive!

Of course they do. By Wed they could be back in a WC spot. The real concern is McNeil. Can we ride out his absence without a 3-5 game losing streak?
Throw Guillorme in that mix too, turning that double after Tejada nearly botched it was big.
But Legares and Altherr certainly cover ground out there.
If Lagares can hit then his fielding makes him a key player. He may not be as good as he ounce was, but he's still a good center fielder, he's certainly been good during this stretch, and with him out there the entire outfield goes from subpar, to good.
Altherr with his sub .100 batting average at this point in the season is pretty incredible.
Wow- So we blast BVW and the disaster we have as a BP...but out of the "name" FA relievers...take a good look. 2 guys(Ottavino/Britton) doing great and both signed with Yanks (FML) One guy doing very good(Wilson) and he signed with the Met's(his injury is one of the major things that hurt us early) and one guy doing decent(Miller) - the rest of them have been horrendous.

How the Fu#k did Diaz save 57 games last season? Who could blame BVW for getting him? Yea I know, we all saw Cano as a albatross, but Diaz was the major key and worth the risk as far as I was concerned. Turning into the Seaver trade for the "5 tool" Steve Henderson,{ what a joke}, and Pat Zachry , Dan Norman and a decent Doug Flynn.
Can't even come close to comparing to the Seaver trade yet. With Seaver we traded a guy who was 3 time CY and coming off 2 of last 3 seasons with 20+ wins and who went 75-43 for the team we traded him too.
Zachry/Henderson/Flynn would have been considered decent MLB players on the Met's if they were traded for him.
So, in 2 ways- we may have gotten better players back in the Seaver trade plus, It was Seaver- can't even compare to a couple of minor leaugers
Agree, and I know people say you just don't know with relievers, but who expecting this level of a meltdown? I mean if he had a 3.50 era, that sort of swing is somewhat predictable I guess, but not this. Same with Famillia, granted no one liked it at the time, but who expected him to be this bad?
I think bullpens around the league are just lousy. Atlanta tries to strengthen their bullpen and the guys they trade for come in and stink it up. The fact that Washington's bullpen has a significantly worse ERA is hard to fathom.
I too thought it was a good trade at the time. I overlooked two critical points:
- The volatility of relief pitchers. I was misled by how good Diaz was in 2018. He went to the other extreme this year. Long term, he's probably somewhere in the middle - a good solid closer, but not worth the price.
- I knew Cano carried a hefty price tag, but took comfort in the fact that Seattle (directly and indirectly) was paying half his salary. However, I forgot about the basic principles of Wilponian accounting. The money they got back for him is deposited and forgotten. Future spending will be constrained by his full salary, regardless of what's already been received.

Just for the sake of keeping it an honest criticism, but JD Davis and Ramos have been good additions. I think Stroman will prove to be that as well. The fact that he actually bought at the deadline as opposed to selling(Vargas aside) likely had a positive effect in the club house.
Brett Gardner, an embarrassment to the Yankees and baseball, right up there with Vince Coleman when he was a Met,that is all.:ThumbsDown:Baseball::ThumbsDown

Didn’t look good. He was grimacing. Still don’t understand why rajai Davis hasn’t been promoted for outfield depth. Nimmo on minor league rehab. Maybe he gets recalled soon? Hopefully McNeil is ready for braves series next weekend.

These hitters don’t even target a completely open side of an infield what makes them target an outfielder? It isn’t like we are forced to play a pitcher in the OF...
And you never know what might happen. Phils had to play a pitcher in left recently. He threw a runner out at home.
Batters can either pull a ball or go the other way. Not rocket science. Can every batter do it? Of course not.
People are going apeshit in trying to ban the shift because they dont want to work to hit the ball the other way. You think theyre going to "target" Rosario in the OF?
