OT: 126 students caught cheating on a test

Chegg is a study app which apparently can be used for cheating. The STEM equivalent of Cliff's Notes.
Could be fake news.
UNC doesn't have tests for classes that don't even require attendance.

If its real there's gotta be somebody on the board who knows something about it. Any current students hear anything?

As for the cheating:
I'm not in this class and don't know anyone in it, but I am a current student. The professor has been posting on Reddit all school year (if not longer, I don't post on Reddit but do read it occasionally). The tone of his response is somewhat surprising, but at the same time understandable. There is a lot of cheating that happens at Rutgers, but no more than any other large university. Pretty much a non-story (other than the idiots who cheated) to me, but I am interested to see what happens...
Lots of people cheat in high school to get into a better college . Lots of people cheat in college to get into a better graduate school . Lots of people cheat in graduate school to get a better job . Sometimes it’s ok to cut corners . Sometimes it’s not .

That professor is wasting way too much time defending himself and what he’s doing. The standards are clear as are his responsibilities...if easily offended people don’t like it, that’s simply too bad.

They uploaded the midterm exams to Chegg to have the "tutors" give them the answers. When you set up your Chegg account they ask what school you go to and they log your IP whenever you use the service. The school logs your IP when you log in to Canvas to do the schoolwork and take the test. It's a matter of moments to cross reference the two lists to find your cheaters.
That maybe true. However the professor response doesn't seem liget. Him cursing is a fireable offense.
I smoked some really nice Chegg at Demarest in 73 or 74. Might have been from Panama. For obvious reasons I can't pin the year down.
why? Never heard of that before. Someone can get fired for cursing? if he has tenure, cursing probably doesn’t even warrant an investigation

Yep, cursing is a fireable offense? Pretty much every sales meetings I’ve ever been a part of has a few choice words in it
I didn't realize Rutgers uses Canvas as an LMS. I did alot of custom work for the Canvas platform like 6-7 years ago in my previous job.
Sales people in a private corporation and a professor at a State University in NJ are completely two different things.
Never figured you for a snowflake - not meaning to be argumentative but I’ve had a number of professors who did mild swearing in class, most memorable was my Latin Lyric Poetry prof who went a student stumbled over a translation about bared breasted sea nymphs said “that’s tits”. On top of which this is outside of the classroom. Maybe your employer would frown on you telling a customer he is a f’ing moron in the store, but if you posted the same sentiment on this board that would be entirely different
I'm certainly not a snowflake at all. Actually the rant by the professor makes him a very public snowflake. Whining bastard.
If I called a customer a Fu$king moron I'd be fired. A floor manager was fired for calling a lady fu$king crackhead. He 100% correct. She was. Causing a scene etc. Trouble was other customers heard him and complained.
This was a lot different than a professor using colorful language in a classroom. This is a professor call students out on popular social media.
How many complaints do you think Rutgers has received on this?
I agree with the Professor and as a parent I am paying a lot of money for my kids to get an education and would be appalled to find they were not working hard enough where they had to cheat. If you have to cheat to get by then you are over your head and should not be at a decent college or are in the wrong degree program. I started at the Engineering school and changed to the business school after my sophomore year as while I was passing everything, I was struggling to do so.
I was the same as you. Started. Passed but struggled. Plus it was a lot more boring than I can ever imagined. Only 1 year. Switch allowed me to play sports as well.
No matter what the context, there are certain things you just never say or put in writing unless you're 100% ready to deal with the terms and conditions that come with it...it's not always about 'being right'; it's about being effective while still being above-board.

True, but eventually you end up in a situation (job?) where you can't cheat your way out.
For real, I can’t tell you how many times I had a professor curse in class not to mention I work in sales as well and yes, we all have sailors mouths
