OSU Road Trip

I have made plans to attend the OSU game. Southwest airfare was dirt cheap and 50 yardline ticket was reasonable.

Anyone else going to attend ? Are there any pubs that cater to visiting fans ? How about parking tips ?(PSU charges $40-50 on site but you can buy a parking pass in advance for $20)

Columbus is not a sh*t hole but OSU is. I hate that stadium, the game day experience and all of those southern Ohio hillbilly pieces of crap who go to those games. Every time there has been a waste of time. I despise everything that is that program. Enjoy yourself!

Will be making the trip with my tailgate buddies. In the past, we camped out at a bar fairly close to the stadium (Varsity Club or Varsity Tap--can't remember which). Good times there. Come armed with a few good responses to the inevitable Buckeye fan abuse. Ironically, I kind of enjoy it. Great game day atmosphere. The stadium, while impressive , feels more like an NFL stadium.

Traffic near the stadium is murder on game day and finding parking anywhere close to campus is nearly impossible (not like at Ryan Field where a 15-20 minute walk down central can yield positive results). Depending on where you are staying, my recommendation would be to hang out in the short north (plenty of cool places) and then hop on the 2 bus until you get close to Lane Ave. From there you can walk to the Shoe in about 15 minutes. There's probably a local shuttle option as well.

As Jules pointed out, campus area is kinda ******, but if you're into the rowdier college stuff then the aforementioned Varsity Club would be the place (I personally hate that establishment). There is massive re-development going down on High St. (both on and off campus) and several of the older dives across from OSU (like Bernie's) are being torn down so VC would likely be your best bet, but you could choose close tweener options like BW3's (it's an Ohio based after all) or Eddie George's as well.

Columbus is a great place to spend a weekend...a real hidden gem in the Midwest. I'd be happy to offer more thorough suggestions (there's plenty to do) related to food, drink, and entertainment for those interested in making the trek to central Ohio.

While the "high school" comparison is tired and old, I agree with your "lighten up" sentiments. Been to most B1G venues, including columbus several times. If you can't manage to enjoy the OSU experience on gameday, it might be your personality that is the sh*t hole--not the hometown fans.

I am going to have to stick up for Columbus. OSU, is not my favorite team by any stretch, but what a great football environment .Go to a Michigan vs OSU game at " The Shoe " and it will be one of the best game day environments you will experience. You can still hate Ohio State and still enjoy tradition and good football. And there is no better state than OHIO.

We are in a Holiday Inn pretty much on top of the campus as I recall -- walking distance to Ohio Stadium. Southwest from Orlando was pretty inexpensive while we are picking up tickets thru the NU Alumni Group. Memories !

As the previous poster mentioned, Holiday Inn is probably your best bet. Even the below average hotels relatively close to campus jump way up when the Buckeyes are home on fall weekends. With Columbus being an easy city to get around in car or by uber/cab, you might try looking into places near the airport/Gahana area. I've had luck out there before when prices near campus or downtown were too much for my liking and it's a very short drive to downtown/short north.

Easton/New Albany is further out, but may have more options as well.

I've never understood this sentiment either.

The western facade and towers are pretty cool, so I think most of these types of comments (I hear them all the time from visiting fans) are driven by how shabby the south endzone looks/feels as opposed to the actual seating capacity. The "erector set" joke makes a little more sense.

Our stadium will look much better when we hang a B1G Championship banner in it. That my friends, is coming . We will see how Buck fans like watching us beat the Bucks Oct 19, 2019 in our stadium.

Nothing surprising. On paper tons of athletic talent and potential. By some accounts the most athletic team since Urban's been here. Extremely low on experience with 45 true and redshirt freshman.

They could conceivably go undefeated, or could very well lose 3-4 games. If he stays healthy I expect a big year for Barrett. Strange to think about it but it's his first offseason as the starter and is getting more reps with the ones than he ever has during the Spring and Summer.

If they lose a game this year I hope it's against Oklahoma. That could help the team like the VA Tech loss did in 2014 without the perception of it being a "bad" loss. Then if they improve as the season goes on, and manage to finish undefeated, it's back to the playoffs. Or they could lose 4 games.

Regardless of their final record this season, I think they'll be really good the next two years. Barrett even has another year of eligibility after this one .

While I love the tone of this post, I just wanted to point out that Ryan Field does have a few of those banners hanging up already (with '95, '96, '00 being the most recent).

While not nearly at level of the BIG blue bloods, Northwestern has spent a little time at the top in the past (and as you mentioned, will do so again).
