In the 2nd half when Oscar was already at 18 rebounds.
And his performance against Bacot? Just gonna gloss over that because it doesn't fit your agenda? How about against Duke when he went for 17 and 20?
Oscar will play in the NBA. Will he be a first round pick? Maybe late first round, but definitely in the second round if not. Will he be a star? No. But there’s definitely a place for a player that can rebound like him and that plays with such a high motor. He does have a nice shooting touch as well. No one knew Davis or Cousins could shoot when they were at UK. Oscar has already proven to be a better shooter than either of them while in college.

Both are impressive to me. And props to Cal for leaving Oscar in as well. Not something we've seen him do before.

I think he has the touch to develop an outside shot, his FT touch is excellent and the jumper around there is good. He also rebounds so well he could make a career out of rebounding for a second team and he’s fast enough to run the floor.
I don’t think it’s that far fetched, both played with tremendous energy and were the best at locating the ball to rebound. Rodman had probably less offensive game than Oscar does. Rodman excelled in the era where rough guys rules but rebounding translates to any era.
I could see GS take someone just like him to use for 4 years on a 2nd round steal of a deal.
A team won’t draft him to be a scorer. They will draft him to do what he does better than anyone has done in years. Rebound!!! Get your shooters 4-5-6 extra shots per game from offensive rebounds.
I wasn't comparing the two as al-around players, that would be silly ... only their relative body types and athleticism/explosiveness.
Rebounding in the nba is not as big of a priority then defense. Andre Drummond is one of the best rebounder ever, bigger, more mobile and explosive and struggles to stay in the nba. It's just being phased out because smaller ball is getting all kinds of guys at a similar size to switch on d
Re: body type and style of play. It remains to be seen how he does at the next level. I watched Malone when he played for the Rockets and I swear he had Velcro on his hands. I see that with Oscar too, great hands and a want-to to grab every ball.
Didn't mean to sound like a dick there, sorry - I thought the jump to compare him to one of the best big men of all time was a little aggressive. Totally agree about how strong Oscar's desire and hands both are. You see so many guys go up for rebounds and get a hand or hands on them but not secure them. If Oscar touches a ball, he is getting that board.
Because Drummond can’t shoot and definitely isn’t very “mobile.” The reason that small ball works is because smaller guys are traditionally known to be better shooters and are more mobile.
That's a good comparison. Evans had a few seasons where he averaged over 10 boards and under 5 points PG. He also had several games with like 1 or 2 points and over 20 rebounds I think. His box scores were fun to look at.
Yep I believe the top 10 instances, in last 40 years, of “most rebounds with 0 points” are only him, marcus camby and dennis rodman
Rodman has 7 games with 0 points and over 20 rebounds. I think he once had back to back games with 49 combined rebounds and zero combined points.
Rarest of athletes too. Dude was 6’8” and fluid. Not the most basketball skilled but nimble.

And he'll be cheap. Look, no one is drafting Oscar to be their primary center, making $30 million a year. But hes the perfect complimentary piece, that if you pay $1-2mil a year, can certainly help your team when he's playing their second unit.
Unfortunately the guy won't play much in the NBA. He's undersized, doesn't have great leaping ability. His post offense is not polished. He hangs his hat on hustle and rebounding. NBA GM's dont look for rebounding much anymore due to how many 3 point shots there are in the game now. As you know, 3pt shots are harder to rebound due to the long rebounds etc. Kenneth Faried comes to mind as a comparison, although Kenneth was much more athletic.
