Having a healthy Feurbach made a big difference tonight. She’s a pretty big upgrade in athleticism from Stremlow, just plays with such high intensity. If the light has turned on for Deal (please) that then makes us so much more versatile on offense vs McCabe. We know Jan will still struggle to give her minutes vs McCabe but the upside of her can be so much bigger for us.
KF is a huge plus when she makes a couple 3s to go with her defense.

Hays has been dreadful on offense and defense tonight.
Not sure whe will ever be the future against the athletic bigs, but she should improve enough to be quality depth in another year.
And kept Hannah the Bricklayer in there to get fouled and bounce free throws off the back of the rim.
She needs pulled the last few minutes in games we are protecting a lead. imo

I think this has more to do with coaching.

Deal is the most talented player on this roster. By far. I know a lot of fans will point to CC or Ava.

But Iowas ceiling largely depends on Iowa maximizing Deal’s ceiling. Her size and skill doesn’t exist elsewhere on Iowas roster. Gotta play her and let her go.,
This just isn't true. Ava and cc are more talented at this point in time. Deal has a very bright future, especially if she hits the gym hard to improve her quickness in the off-season. She is going to want to stay lean.

The schedule to date hasn't been terribly tough.
Without looking, they were probably betting favs in every victory.
JJ was always credited with developing post players.
The silly fouls from Ava and Hays continue to be a problem.
it hasn't been terribly tough because you can see that we are good. If you understand that you know Jan has assembled a very good team and good staff. If you're expectation is CC and the final 4, you're going to be disappointed quite often.

Unfortunately I agree with this 100%. With that said, she had a really good overall game and was an integral part of why we win this game comfortably. Her fingerprints were all over this game on both ends of the court.

She even hit two mid-range jump shots, which stunned everybody, likely including her. 😂

Hannah is easy to root for, seems like a great young lady, but her game can be so confounding at times. So I want to make sure I give her the praise she deserves when she does well, and she's been pretty solid recently. Keep it up kid. 🙂

Deal is more talented than both. I don't think it's close. Better at attacking the rim, better finisher, more versatile scorer. And her defense last night showed what kind of potential she has on that side of the floor w/ her size and athleticism.

For Iowa to maximize its ceiling and compete w/ the best teams, Ava and CC can't be the team's best players. The best teams have a player like Deal.

I think you'll start to see Deal continue to showcase her talent as the season progresses.

Again, as the always defender of Hannah, lol, if you take her out in the last 2 minutes you are taking out by far our best post defender and rebounder. Now you can go offense and defense, which I certainly think is something to look at but just saying take Hannah out and replace her with Houston or whoever you're replacing a 6-2 Power Forward with a 5-11 one. She was great last night on defense, Between her and Feurbach they were extremely disruptive defensively. Does she, and should she be better at the line? Definitely. But it's just not that easy.

It has nothing to do with that, it has to do with you being the most negative Hawkeye fan on the forums. You do nothing but s*** talk athletes and their parents. You are regularly having to eat crow because you're a such a negative ***.
Paid athletes!

The new world of college.
Comes with the deal.

Even though she's not a reliable freethrow shooter, she's a senior with 88 minutes playing time in Final Four games - she's not likely to panic and she keeps her teammates loose and focused. Jan makes sure that she only touches the ball as a last resort.

So, okay. I have had some issues with her late game personnel and time out management. I don't think a coach exists that I wouldn't have something to criticize. With that said, this team which relies heavily on underclassmen, has one of its best records ever through 17 games, and one of the reasons they've been favored in all of these games is because they're really good. In their 2 losses, they lost to the best team in the country in what amounted to a road game and a rivalry road game to what was a very good team by just 5 points with their top scorer playing only 16 minutes. They also found a way to overcome 2 very difficult upset situations on the road to stay undefeated in conference. Give her some props. The men would absolutely love to be where this team is right now.

I think she'll do great, but right now losing Ava or CeCe for a few games would be a much bigger blow. Ava is a better finisher also. Even though she wasn't last night. And if you go back to deal threads you'll see me being one of her biggest fans, but right now cc and Ava have been way more consistent and better. Deal has a bright future and hopefully we'll see some consistent outputs like last night. Only then will she entered the conversation with Ava and CC.

That's fair but at the point of the game where the other team has to foul to have a chance I think she needs to be taken out.

Yeah. Everything is nuanced. Last night was not the same as the previous game where Iowa had the ball with a slim lead on an inbound pass knowing the opponent was going to immediately foul whoever received it and we played directly into it by throwing it to our worst FT shooter who then missed both. The reason that was such a head scratcher was that Hannah didn't have to even miss a play. Throw the ball in, take the foul, and insert Hannah back into the lineup to rebound and play defense.

He was that way before they were paid he just tried to justify it now. The jealousy is so apparent. He gets extra Joy when he gets a parent to engage him online. It would be great if one of the parents caught up with him s.ometime.
"Jealousy is apparent"...where in hell did you dream that up?

LOL
Nothing I've ever commented on wasn't relevant at the time it was posted.
JJ has had a lot of WTF moments.

Ol' Doodle 100% agrees that she seems like a genuinely good person and she is absolutely a very good player overall. But she still has some lapses defensively and she is still highly suspect at the charity stripe. So tactically, for the coaching staff to leave her in for the final 2-3 minutes of a game in which we had a healthy double-digit lead and basically beg the other team to go "Hack-A-Hannah" on the bit and induce several empty trips for Iowa on the offensive end is certainly open to scrutiny.

Really? Where is that entire thread about how bad she is?
Seems that the detractors are cut and pasting what was written about Addie to Layla. I just don't understand people ripping 18-19 year olds during their first year playing college basketball. I can see it now, when McKenna arrives with her lofty ranking, the so-called supporters on these boards will dig out their saved posts when she clangs a few shots and doesn't grab double digit rebounds. Most of the freshman around the country are not stuffing the stat sheet like the personal attackers want.

So, 99% of these criticisms come out during game threads and freshmen are not immune to criticism of poor play. Most of it is simply observations of what everyone is seeing. Addie was great last night. Layla was a liability. That's not an attack. That was a correct observation. Hannah is a senior that has shouldered a fair amount of criticisms during game threads this year. There might be 1 or 2 that cross the line into the realm of nasty or unfair, but that's rare in my opinion. Everyone expects more of highly touted freshmen than they're ready to contribute. That's just human nature, but I think most folks are like Jan, and understand that most freshmen need time to become valuable contributors.

Game threads are just a bunch of negative comments. Rarely does a good play get mentioned and there is no thoughtful analysis. Just a string of criticisms about the shortcomings of each player, coaching decisions and poor plays.
Defend it all you want, but being constantly negative is lazy. If you choose to be that way, you are a crappy fan and a sad, small person.
