The added parity of headcount reductions is going to continue to smooth out the talent. We are in for some great college football product over the next 5 years. Exciting times.

Obviously money and resources helps. But, a team like Ohio State who has a 20 million dollar roster went out and lost to a rebuilding Michigan. Coaching still matters. Ryan Day sucks. Dan Lanning is a good coach. And with Oregon and Phil Knight's Nike money they can be in the National title hunt every year.

You lost me at “Ryan Day sucks”. I think he’s a darned good coach but there’s lots of factors not limited to injuries that go in to winning titles. A ball booted in to the air for a TD was needed for Tom.

Nfl style salary cap will level the playing field, IMO. High spending schools won't like it.

The rumor is OSU has a $20 million roster. If that's what a $20 million roster looks like then I think a lot of schools can compete with that. They made a choice to prioritize skill positions and ended up with oline problems and a mediocre qb. Just like the NFL, teams will have tradeoffs to stay under the cap.

Disclaimer, I have no idea what the penalty for going over the cap is and it obviously is unlikely to be enforced by the NCAA.

I get that. But they just bought a roster that has the most and highest composite 5 stars in the country in this recruiting cycle. And with nike this will happen every year. It is just crazy

With Michigan in full rebuild mode with a brand-new coach there is no reason Ryan Day and OSU should have lost to Michigan at home this year. Not with that talent.

That is a good point. I cant believe they rolled with Howard as there QB. He has looked pretty average

Kind of the problem with the portal. There isn't always going to be a clear cut guy available. People are hard on DR but we should be extremely thankful to have him. National title winner last year struggled to even have a decent qb for most of the year. Highest paid roster and a supposed title contender has Will Howard.

My childhood best friend moved to Oregon (from Omaha) a year after I moved to Indiana after 4th grade. I have NEVER liked Oregon (the school). This kind of nonsense is something that will turn me off from watching college football if Knight is successful. It's sickening. As much as we would love for Warren Buffett help fund our program, I don't think that I want to buy a championship. If I want to watch pro football, we already have such a league.

I don't believe so but I'll wait and see how this NIL and Transfer Portal goes.There are already issues with it.

This is the problem. NIL can't be capped without a CBA. College football players have to unionize to make this problem better. The courts can't cap an Americans earning potential. Its Unconstitutional. However if they collectively bargain and operate as a union the union can negotiate caps and limits.

They like us have some huge roster holes. Turns out that maybe running off experienced non-starting O linemen to sign the next 5 star OT doesn’t always work. They have problems some of which has been assistant turnover.

Most schools will not compete with that. Add on the fact that Oregon will be cherry picking star players in the portal like Parker Gabriel and Tez Johnson from Troy. They have a huge talent advantage. Meanwhile their competitors will celebrate bringing in Oregon's third and fourth stringers in the portal.

May be the first team in history to have their entire starting defensive backfield to be boughten transfers from other programs as well. It's amazing how they've recruited and yet they still have had to purchase enough talent to get to where they are. It's sickening.

I’d argue D1 football players had it better than most before. No college debt, tutoring programs to help in degree, unlimited girls - big man on campus wherever they went, career connections, etc.

Sure, the universities and head coaches make big dollars. The company I work for has grown over $50 billion in value and the CEO makes multiples more dough than when I started several years ago. I’ve been a top performer in my role every year - so should I be getting paid millions just because?

The other factor is what unearned money does to people. We already know that nearly 75% of lottery winners end up worse off after winning. Millions in the hands of 18 - 22 year olds is not going to serve them well in most cases.

But…the genie is out of the bottle, so all we have now is to manage the consequences.

Of course you should be getting paid more but you are letting yourself be devalued. Most of us do that, we are pathetic when it comes to demanding more money, asking for raises or job hopping.

And I get the "lots of money for these guys is not a good idea for them", but that is up to them how they use their money.

As far as lotto winners go, they may end up worse off but I am sure it was one ******* wild ride to get down there!

Best to do it now before a salary cap comes up. Texas Tech is doing it similarly. Wouldn't it be amusing if Texas Tech won a championship before Texas?

Twenty one million is what I'm hearing is going to be the cap when revenue sharing kicks in.
