For Halloween and sometimes after a few drinks 'Motownmo' puts on his Statute Of Liberty costume and wanders about Hiksburtonia saying, 'give me your big fat guys for the offensive line, give me your athletes from ISS (in skool suspension for those south of I-40) for defense, give me more Lemasters and Wilsons and some guys with strange Yankee sounding names. Gimme a couple hotdogs with everything. As 'Mo' climbs atop Eno Mountain Charlton Heston like. (Drum roll please) For I have declared Orange High a ''Sancturary City for Winning Football in Orange County''. (Cymbals or trash can lids clash please) If youse defense guys are tired of gettin' rolled round like a Walmart cart, if punting is your offense, if fans say the powder puff game looks good to them, if the pre-season intersquad game is your only sure win, if you have fat cheerleaders from a lack of aerobic activity, if the ER is where you gather after the game, if you are on a first name basis with the local chiropractor, if you had rather ride around South of I-40 and yell 'loser' just to see folks turn around, then park your feet on our sidelines and ''quit building character be a character!'' The only thing losing builds is the other teams winnin' record. I know some of those community college law skool graduates are gonna' say the gov signed a bill outlawing such cities. But I know Pat and Pat played at Ragsdale (Don't fact check that too close) and he says, 'The only thing that has beat more Democrats in Orange County than Orange High was the Marriage Amendment'. Yes your son, or dotter if her age and dress size are the same, can really feel better about themselves by knocking the slobber out of some other teenage loser in a opposite color jersey and wear a shirt that says, ''Ag Day at Orange High, '''We breed winnin' football!'''

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Orange. Many thought that graduation would adversely effect the team. It may have been wishful thinking for some and a inflated hindsight of others. Orange continued to schedule 4 A schools with an emphasis on being competitive rather than scheduling stat builder games. This years team featured a ground and pound offense that has broken down most teams from the inside. The injuries Orange had would have decimated most teams. Losing the main breakaway threat running back and the quarterback who was replaced by a wideout and still win was remarkable. Late in the year some receivers have developed into go to players and with the addition of a tight end who can catch it backed defenses out of the box. The defense has been stellar and is very solid against the run and capable against the pass. This is a Moser coached team so that running the ball and a strong defense is to be expected. With the emphasis that is placed on the JV program, another undefeated season, Moser coached teams don't rebuild they retool with fresh players who want to play. With three teams tied for first place the draw will be important. Maybe this will be the year that Orange does not meet a dynasty team in the playoffs. Or at least meet teams that are held to the same residence restrictions that Orange does.

Yep scoring almost 400 points and giving up just over 100 while scheduling larger schools and being bit by the injury bug has got to rank as one of the best coaching jobs ever. Especially when Oranges talent is home grown not transplanted or recruited.

Orange has this week off. Then they will draw the number out of the hat to see what place in the conference a 10-1 team has while the other two teams have worse overall records. Then the playoff berths come out and the conference games will start again after the first round. Orange is getting healthy and is a better team than the one that started the year. Minus Brandon Dean. Some athletic help may come from the undefeated JV team but that is always a huge jump from JV's to varsity especially during playoff time. The kicker that was injured early on has returned and against Webb most kickoffs were near the goal line.

They should be starting out this playoff season as 3-Time State Champs. Let's hope the players and coaching staff are ready to finally make the run to grab the Ring. Might have to make another run thru the Big 8 again to do it.

Bryse Wilson takes his million dollar baseball arm out on the football field because he wants his high school to be successful and he wants to be with the friends he grew up with. That's why he has been blessed with special talent and his future is unlimited.
